What browser are you using? I have Vista on my computer and have no problem looking at videos on Wall Street Journal using either Firefox or IE8. Can you see other videos using Flash Player, or is this just a problem on Wall Street Journal?

START> Control Panel>Programs and Features. At the top of the report, what version of Flash is reported installed?

Perhaps not you, but I have seen others before confuse Adobe Flash and Adobe Shockwave.

Are you "Run"ning or "Save"ing the download? If you have "save"d the download, have you tried deleting the reported version and then installed the new one? Normally this is not necessary, but you never know.

Have you tried the install in Safe Mode?

if you go back to the flash download page homepage once it has been downloaded and installed it will show you a flash animation if you see that working your new installed version is working it is always suggested to go back to that page to confirm it is working. YOU MUST get the appropriate one for the browser you are using, if you use more than one browser you must get the appropriate one for EACH browser. What browser are you trying to use it with?
and some sites just do not work well with some pc configurations so if you are seeing the flash on the flash download page and seeing other flash animation working it may be that specific site. can you view youtube?

be sure you UN check any other things they try to get you to install you only want the flash, on that page you will see that there is a check mark already in the box for the McAfee Security scan you can un check that and any other things like toolbars you just want the flash download.

If you go here and can see and hear the flash animation at the top that means you do have flash working, the latest version as you can see there is 10.

just go to the first download site, find the one for the system and browser you are using and download it, go to the download location you saved it to and double click it to install.

Do you have Vista 64 bit? I ended up with 9 or 10 set ups on my computer but none would install and work. I am not sure what I did to remedy the situation, but think I searched for a Adobe Flash Player 64 bit compatible and it worked for me. If you have a 64 computer check this site out.

also you must be using the browser you want to install it in when you get it and download it, so go with IE to get the one for Ie and if you have firefox use firefox to go get the download for it and install it.
It also gives you the option of choosing your operating system make sure you have selected that option also.

Thank you for the quick responses. Below are my answers to the questions you have asked.

The browser is IE8. The version I downloaded yesterday was Adobe Flash Player 10 ActiveX. I uninstalled it, and downloaded and installed it again. Using START> Control Panel>Programs and Features I confirmed what I re-downloaded was Adobe Flash Player 10 ActiveX.

The system I have is 32 bit. After downloading and installation, I still could not see any animation. I went to the sites that ravencajun suggested, went on YouTube too, saw nothing but the same dreadful messages " You don't have current Adobe Flash Player", or "cannot find Adobe Flash Player".

I have not try Safe Mode yet. Will it help? How can I get to it?

Click on different Operating System or Browser

Select Vista/XP/2003/2000> Click on Continue

Be sure the Flash Player for Windows Internet Explorer is selected

Click on Agree and Install Now

Yes, it was the site I previously used to download the Adobe Flash Player. I just downloaded the latest version by following your instructions. But still see no animation from WSJ or youTube.

I only have regular software with virus protection. I have no idea as what caused the problem.

Should I re-install Vista? Surely hate to do that if I don't have to.

Please do not do a re-install. Members will need more time to evaluate and hopefully resolve your concern. The re-install would be only a last-ditch-effort.

Are you having any other concerns? Regardless of how minor or with what?

Did you have this concern with IE7?

Do you have another browser available to check the target sites? If not, I do recommend Firefox be installed on your system. Two or more browsers will not conflict as they are on-demand applications. Further, a second browser could be essential in the future if you ever have a concern which disables your IE8. I currently have three browsers on-board and some members here have reported that they have even more.

please do get firefox browser and see if you can view flash animation using it that will let us know if this is an Ie8 specific problem, plus you should always have at least 2 browsers on the pc in case one should fail.

someone did ask when you do the download are you selecting to save the download to your pc? if so are you then going to the download area and double clicking it to install it? does it complete the install procedure?

You guys are heroes!!! Your suggestions work!!

I downloaded the Firefox, restarted the machine in safe mode. Installed the Adobe Flash Player again. Restarted the machine in regular mode. Using Firefox I can see video, animation and movie. Using IE8 I see nothing but the ugly "you don't have current Adobe Flash Player".

It seems there are incompatibility issues between IE8 and Adobe Flash Player.

Firefox is awesome. It is visibly faster and sleeker than IE8.

I am so grateful for your help. For a while I thought the only solution for this problem is to reinstall the Vista. Thank you a million, life is so good with Adobe Flash Player!

very good. firefox is my fave browser if you have not yet discovered all the wonderful add ons for it then be sure you check the add ons list at mozilla. Also on the tips and tricks thread you can find many neat ones mentioned.

I am having the exact same problem, and I have tried downloading Firefox as well. Although, it is downloaded it does nothing. I cannot even access it at all, this whole process is so frustrating, can you help??
