Adobe Flash Player

I was having problems with some games on FB so I thought I would uninstall Flash and get the latest version. I download it and then as it was installing I get an error message saying Flash was did not install. I tried to read the troubleshooting page but I can't see what is wrong. I use Firefox which I just reinstalled also.

Earlier this morning when I turned on the computer a screen came up and said Checking File System C -NTFS - Volume Level IBM Preload. One of your disks needs to be checked for consistency. It then went through all the checks and rebooted. My OS is Windows XP

Thanks for any suggestions you can offer me in a way I can understand it.

My plug in say I have Shockwave Director up to date - is that the one I need? Thanks

Thanks for the responses ! mikie -- Thanks for the links ! I uninstalled, restarted and then installed both versions you linked to. (I also have Comodo Dragon [Chrome] on my computer but rarely use it. We'll see if I still get some sort of error that that browser needs an AFP update.) Btw, when installing for FF I had to close the browser. When installing for IE I was not told to close the browser. Not being an IE user, I don't know if that is a big deal or not. But everything went smoothly. Thanks, mikie ! azinoh -- There are two user accounts on this computer. Mine is not THE admin account, but it does have administrator authority when necessary. I did the update for each browser as you suggested and used mikie's links. :-) esteban -- Although in most cases I do things the way owbist describes above, this time I used the Snipping Tool that comes with Windows 7. I saved the pic to my desktop and clicked "Browse" (next to "Image file to upload" above the composition area). Piece of cake. (Or pumpkin pie, if you prefer.) :-) I have not rebooted since doing these installations, but as far as I can tell my situation is resolved. Thanks for the help! :-)

I dont have the link to the trouble repair method on adobe site but basically its.... look in task manager for Macromedia & Flash Player, end all processes you find there.. Uninstall from control panel....then use the uninstall tool, delete all the folders and files you can find on the hard drive... Restart before installing fresh. Well, that's a loaded question. Do you need Flash? It's basically built into many browsers now (Microsoft Edge, Chrome and derivatives) so you don't need to "get it". For Firefox and IE, you still need to download separately, but make sure you're actually using sites that need it. It's probably the most common way to get a virus browsing the web today and is a major pain to keep installing updates (sometimes daily) and restarting your browser to get the new version. If you don't need it, it's pretty simple to not install it. If you do need it, or it's part of the browser you're using, you should consider getting a flash blocker extension so you can only enable the actual flash content you want - much safer.

If I the Shockwave Director plug in is not the correct plug in how do I get the right one. I have been trying to find just a Shockwave Flash plug in. I have tried installing Adobe Flash numerous times.

On my Firefox Plug in Page there is a box and it says - Missing Flash? For your safety, Firefox has disabled your outdated version of Flash. Please upgrade to the latest version. I click on there link and still it won't install.

Zep, thank you for helping. Just before I read your last post I went to the Adobe forum and other people were having the same problems tonight. Someone had already posted links using a 32 bit download so I tried that and it worked and the regular Shockwave Plug in showed up on my plug in page as enabled. I don't know what 32 bit or 64 bit means or even if I need the 64 bit but I will see if this works.

You helped me a few years ago with a computer problem I had so thank you again.

Flash came out with a new version just hours ago.
And I think they might need to replace it with a update soon. Seems to have at least a couple of new problems suddenly.
