Thanks mikie! I went to the search page and didn't take long to get a headache. I think this is going to be way out of my realm. First I changed a Word document into a pdf file and now I gotta embed it back into a html page. When I add the file to an html page, all I get is the page with my background scheme showing. Somehow, this was not what I had in mind. I know it's possible because I see it every day, but I'm just not smart enough to figure it out.Thanks again! Ida

Thanks everyone. I didn't imagine folks would try to locate this file and check on their computers. that's very nice of everyone. I think people are finding the short guide (which is just a few pages). The manual is different (it's over 40 pages) - I will link it here: http://www.dvdflick.net/guide/guide_new.pdf This is what I can't get to print. Most other documents do print. I have had occasional trouble printing - but usually it's a pdf file that only Acrobat will read (or at least some pdf readers won't read them). had this experience with some Medicare/government documents. Saving to my hard drive doesn't help. Bob - I think you had the right document. I looked at properties as well - and sure enough, it says printing not allowed. This is really bizarre to me that printing is not allowed. That makes it very difficult to refer to the manual while you are actually working with the software. I see that the author wants me to ask permission to print - it's password protected. He's asked to be contacted via the forum - so I've just done that. Bob - thanks for the linux/ubuntu link. I have no idea what any of that means. I can download and burn to disc - but don't know what it would look like to boot into linux - never done it - don't know if I could figure it out. I think this is useful sometimes - but this isn't so urgent. So I will leave learning linux for another time when I'm not drowning in more pressing tech clean-ups. Thank you. Lynn.

there are many really good useful screen capture free programs out there, bobs link to those at gizmo provides several of the top choices. Many have the editing stuff all built in to them. On my linux I have one called ksnapshot which is so easy to use wish they had just that item for windows. On windows I have used a few including the gadwin program and I have used this one Screenpresso logo and the picpick one mentioned at the gizmo site. I had no idea the pdf select tool would not work on some items. That is strange. on the ones y'all tried it on had you actually saved the pdf file to your pc or were you viewing the pdf file from the online site? just wondering if that would make any difference. I have never encountered that problem.

It sounds like two issues are going on there - getting photos off your phone, and files having their extensions changed. For the latter, first you need to determine if the files were actually changed to pdfs or just the extensions changed (the dot and last three letters, as in .pdf, or .doc) Try right clicking on one file, choosing "rename" and changing the extension to what is was originally - .doc or whatever. Don't worry about the warning - you can change extensions as many times as you like. If it opens you're going to have to rename each file by renaming the extension. Programs that can rename, like the one included with "FileMenuTools", can do that in batches but if you're not a bit experienced it might feel a bit challenging. If it still doesn't open after changing the extension, something deeper has happened - the file itself may have been altered. If that's the case, I would guess you might have some sort of virus and I would do a completely scan with an antivirus and/or anti malware program.
