Forgot to say I'm using XP and IE8.

For most programs, including Adobe, you typically don't need to do any uninstall. The installation of the new version goes on top of the old and automatically takes care of everything. Sometimes it even complicates things if you try an uninstall and it's imperfectly done. However, whatever you did should have nothing to do with a page display problem. What operating system are you using, and what is the web address of the page where you are trying to download Adobe?

That URL worked perfectly for me using Opera browser. Try using another browser other than IE8. You really should have more than one browser anyway. Many here prefer Firefox, and then there's also Chrome. These are all good and are really safer to use than Internet Explorer.

That's the right place, your operating system is compatible with the newest Adobe Reader, and I had no problem getting the site to download for me using Firefox. I agree with grndms...try another browser. Good luck.

I downloaded Firefox and still wasn't able to download the Adobe Reader, so I tried Foxit. This is the message I got.

C:\Documents and Settings\My Name\My Documents\Downloads\FoxitReader31_enu_Setup_091125.exe.part could not be saved, because the source file could not be read.

Try again later, or contact the server administrator.

Can you tell me what this means?

I do not recommend over writing applications particularly AR. Since v5.5 I have assisted several users were they overwrote AR and ended up with two active versions on the system and they conflicted.

I personally do not like nor do I recommend AR as it has become more and more integrated into the O/S. Plus, when you do want to remove it it is difficult and only using REVO will a user maintain his/her sanity.

I have been using and recommending Foxit for quite a while now after being referred to it here on the forum.

I downloaded PDF Exchange and (it took me a bit to figure it out) it's working fine. Thanks so much for the help. Now, can you tell me about using Foxfire? I've read on this forum that a lot of you like it better than IE, but I was wondering why. I currently have both downloaded on my laptop. Should I keep both? And, if so should I have both on my PC?

You can have all the browsers you wish installed on your system they do not conflict. You will for convenience have to designate one as the default browser.

One benefit to having multiple browsers on a system is if one fails you have a pre-installed backup to continue working or resolve your concern.

To me personally, a browser is a browser. Just like cars some are Ford and some are Chevy people. After years of using IE as my primary I have moved to FF as it is faster on my antique DUN. Some of the add-ons are nice, but it does not walk on water.

yes you have to keep Ie it is part of windows and it is always best to have at least 2 browsers on the pc incase one should fail you always have an alternate.

I use and love firefox, there are tons of great add-ons for it that make my life so much easier, try searching here on the forum for firefox and you will find a lot of info.

the add-ons I always suggest are
adblock plus to prevent ads on pages and use the subscriptions on Ricks easylist page
Adblock Plus 1.1.3
EasyList and EasyPrivacy after you have added adblock plus to your firefox and restarted it then go there and scroll down to the 2 yellow lines on the right it says add to ABP click on that for both to add to your adblock plus.
