Word or other program to PDF file - help?

I am creating a directory of names and phone numbers. Looking for a cheaper way to distribute than to actually have it printed.

Currently, all data is in an Access database (2007). I was thinking if I could export it to Word, format it nicely and then save it as a PDF file that could not be copied or altered -- then I could just e-mail it out to distribute it instead of printing.

Have no idea how to do this. Seems you have to buy special software to create a PDF file???

Any advice would be great.

OpenOffice.org I think will allow you to do that.
Big freeware program.

You really have two questions here. The second is the easiest, there are a number of free PDF creation programs out there. I use PrimoPDF and it works fine.

As for your data, you can create reports in Access. I haven't used Access 2007 but it's not the most complicated thing to do although it's probably not as intuitive (or perhaps familiar) as Word. The other option is to create a mail merge in Word using the Access database as the data source. Pull out the information you want and order as you please.

yes you have to keep Ie it is part of windows and it is always best to have at least 2 browsers on the pc incase one should fail you always have an alternate. I use and love firefox, there are tons of great add-ons for it that make my life so much easier, try searching here on the forum for firefox and you will find a lot of info. Learn Firefox Ultimate List of Firefox 3 Tips and Tricks those should get you started, you will love the ease of use and the tabbed browsing. the add-ons I always suggest are adblock plus to prevent ads on pages and use the subscriptions on Ricks easylist page Adblock Plus 1.1.3 EasyList and EasyPrivacy after you have added adblock plus to your firefox and restarted it then go there and scroll down to the 2 yellow lines on the right it says add to ABP click on that for both to add to your adblock plus. I also like colored tabs ColorfulTabs 4.1 to help you surf safer and avoid dangerous sites WOT - Safe Browsing Tool 20091028 if you spend some time looking through the hundreds of add-ons you will find so many that make life easier.

Really need more information. Which program are you using to open\read PDF files? In a lot of cases, just increasing or decreasing the zoom setting will help you see more of the document. The "little hand" is the PDF cursor within the document. I'm not sure what you mean by "the right column" unless you mean the scroll bar? Help us help you. If you know how to post a screen shot of an opened PDF file, that would be a huge help.

Well one theory (read as utter guess work LOL)is that either the CD is quite old and your Adobe Reader is not backwards compatible that far back. Or right the opposite, this is a very new CD and their older Adobe only recognises part. Reading the fine print on the CD sleeve or box might give you a clue. You could download and try Foxit Reader linked below. This is a totally free program many of us use that does not have the bloat accompanying Adobe. What program are you using to open the files with? You should have adobe acrobat reader installed do you? it would be in your add/remove programs list it is possible that program or the program you use has a problem and may have to be reinstalled. What operating system xp, vista, 98? Have you ever been able to open pdf files, in other words did this problem just begin to occur?

Microsoft has provided a download to export files as pdf from Office 2007 programs. You can find it here.

I'm glad it helped. I use it for distributing a newsletter I create with MS Publisher 2007.
