orchard planning

Ive read through the software suggestions and also graph paper suggestions, but my problem is more a little different than most.

I am planting a pecan orchard with an intercrop (probably berries for a you pick orchard, maybe some other things - I'm open to suggestions)

I will be basing it on this design http://www.centerforagroforestry.org/pubs/pecansdouble.pdf

My problem is figuring out how many trees go to an acre using this system. I dont know why the author left that out of the article.

I started to try to plot out an acre on graph paper, but don't figure out how. If I considered each square 5 feet, I would still have over a thousand squares to deal with.

Does anyone know a simple way to figure this out?

I posted this here instead of design since I am not designing a landscape or garden
