Pool Side/Outdoor Entertaining Compliments of Gina!

Gina put together a very cool package to get me started on pool side/outdoor entertaining this summer at my new place. Something Im sure she does a lot of living on the ocean and the beautiful weather CA has most of the time. That is, if she is not playing Ping Pong!!

She knows me and my group to well! A good cocktail is the perfect way to start an afternoon by the pool. Good for tea or lemonade tooÂwe donÂt always party now that we are getting older. She sent me these colorful/fun acrylic tumblers......a 16 piece set! Glass and concrete donÂt mix to well so these will be put to good use real soon. How did you know I got rid of all of my mismatched stuff from the cabin?? The lake claimed a lot of them and some just disappeared. At least now if one finds itÂs way into the water I can retrieve it! IÂll be clinking to you, DH, and Odo too pool side pal.

Houston we have a problemÂÂ How the heck do you determine what % of alcohol your drink contains??? Do they sell a device to measure thisÂnot that IÂd want to or anythingÂ. This warning cracked me up so I had to share with yÂall. IÂm not too worried about itÂ I think! LOL

Next, how do you get all of this stuff out to the pool. Well, Gina has me covered here too with a great wicker tray and silverware holder set. Again, a perfect thing for me now. I have to do a lot of walking from the kitchen to get to the sunroom pool area and my grills. Back at the lake it was just a step or two to get to the patio. I love watching Ina Garten load up here wicker tray and head out to the garden. IÂll be doing the same now. Too bad I donÂt have that guy that sets the table and IÂm sure he cleans up afterwords!

Hey, ya gotta have some condiments to compliment the food sometimes. IÂm good to go with this cute little picnic table condiment holder. Gina, I grew up with a set of ketchup and mustard containers like that. IÂm sure Mom had them because back then everything was in glass jars /bottles. Sure does bring back some great memories of days gone by. Oh, I MUST have the neon yellow mustard on my dogs, brats, and burgers and it is about the only thing I use ketchup for too. The salt and pepper shakers have some tight fitting lids that should help protect the contents from our high humidity. Perfect!!

Gina, thank you so much for a very cool swap package!! I'll be using all of these items in the near future as spring has sprung here and I'll be opening the pool next month. Oh, almost forgot. This is box one of two, y'all remember Gina mentioning she forgot something in another post. I have an idea what it might be but I'm not telling...lolololol! You will just have to wait! Thanks again my friend!!

David........ I say to H*ll with the Acrylic, and dump in the booze !!! Thank Heavens.... it doesn't mention what it does to our brains. LOL Nice Patio goodies. I think Gina did good. Love the Condiment set. You can use the ketchup & mustard bottles, to put your "Rubbing Oils" in, when your not barbecuing. He He !!! Great stuff !!! Enjoy !!! Diana55

Oh Gina, the perfect theme for David and his new house. David you really are all set for entertaining around your pool. Love the colourful glasses and the wicker tray and cutlery holder are great. Enjoy!

jejvtr - your suggestion to wait until the space is finished before deciding on such a large piece is a good one, I think. I'm just so impatient and know that it will take quite a bit of lead time to have one made, so I was trying to coordinate everything to come together at once. I think I'll at least wait until my drywall and fireplace are done. At that time, everything should be cleaned up a bit around here and I can post pictures - I'm too embarrassed to do so right now - it's a mess around here! gardenchick - your bookcase and tv unit are lovely - I really like the contrast between the stained backboard and the black finish. Our furniture is almost identical to yours - same colors, styles, etc., so it's nice to see how nicely put together your room is. Thanks for posting pictures! snookums - thank you for the referral. I'm definitely going to head over to that website and see if there is a retailer in my area. Also, thanks (to you and all those who agreed that $52K is outrageous. I was almost afraid to post for fear of only getting responses that this was a perfectly reasonable amount of money to pay if you want quality :-) oceanna - I loved your reference to seances! I don't get that feeling from the unit and actually really like the rope detailing on this one (maybe it's just the color that gives you that vibe?) but you made me laugh!

Welcome Pharoh. Thank you so much for sharing those kitchen photos, which of course totally blew me away like everyone else. Being a biologist with a particular interest in thing aquatic, your kitchen was like a dream to me, like a "I've died and gone to heavan" kitchen. My own kitchen is very small and completely lacking in counter space. Since it is a row house, no chance of expanding, lol! I'm a vegetarain too, although no gourmet. I'm basically what I call a "hash cook." I have no patience for manipulating and arranging my food, so I specialize in stews and soups! Also cheap food. I can no more do good phyllo than play the violin, lol! I love eating Indian and Asian food, although I don't cook it that often, I just don't have the ingredients around for it. I seem to specialize in mediterranean cooking, I have yet to find a mediterranean cuisine that I didn't love, most recently I have been doing N. African due to the influence of this forum and one of our virtual dinners. How I envy you living in CA, you have access to all the best ingredients all the time. Welcome, glad you're here! Lpink

When all was said and done, I ended up spending roughly 45K on the outdoor kitchen. That includes all cypress cabinets, granite countertops, bull stainless grill, side burner, stainless fridge, 46" samsung TV, stainless outdoor gas-woodburning fireplace, surround sound system, cypress ceilings, 18" fiberglass columns to name a few things. Only weather problem I have had so far is when I get a rain coming out of the west, it will get into the west side and wet my cabinets a little. I am currently trying to find some type of shade or curtain of some sort to install on that side of the kitchen to protect from the weather. Other than that, everything else has been safe from the weather so far. I keep the TV enclosed over the fireplace inside the cypress cabinet. Nick

I love to entertain, the more the merrier! Do I get stressed out? Yup. I find I enjoy entertaining outdoors better; it keeps people out of my kitchen! LOL Our pool house/shed has a tiny kitchen area (and bathroom) and the grills are on the deck off the pool house/shed. The entire set up is 100+ feet from the main house. Nothing fancy but it works great! I prep everything in the main kitchen then load it in the car and drive it out to the pool house. The mess stays out there and I don't have to deal with folks in my kitchen. LOL Whether I entertain in the house or outdoors, my main stress is my immediate family. They are a huge help and without them I could not do as much entertaining. However, we all work a ton of hours at our regular jobs and this leads to DH, DD & DS procrastinating on tasks. I end up stressed because they are trying to complete tasks at the last minute when I would prefer to be relaxing a bit. I have learned to just accept this is going to happen but it doesn’t always make it easy. LOL I have a schedule of 6 or so events I host each year varying in size from 14 to 75-ish guests so I plan ahead and purchase ahead. Of course that does not preclude any impromptu events that may crop up which tend to feature whatever I have on hand. stir_fryi - You have gotten great advice from the folks in this discussion on how to manage entertaining. The only suggestion I can add is keep notes. Every time I entertain a planned event, I keep notes as I go along. Info includes when invitations went out and by what means, cost of items purchased and when and where, details of the ramp up time i.e. when I started and finishing cleaning and decorating, what tasks I did, recipes used and popularity, serving pieces used, etc. I do de-brief after and take stock of leftover food, alcohol, make notes on what went well and what did not. I know it sounds like a lot of work and sometimes it is but many times it is just a few notes. From those notes, I build a game plan, shopping list and timeline for the next years’ events. It also helps me track my entertaining budget for each event and for the year.

That is a great package and definately puts my mind in the mood for spring. We had temps of 50 degrees today and I took all the kids out to play. I love all the colors of the glasses that way in a party everyone will know whose glass is whose with the different colors.

David, it's a relief to know you have enough poolside glasses for when us 'travelers' come to visit. And it will be much easier for you to serve us having the tray and condiment holder... Yup, we'll be on our way, soon as the weather improves a bit! Get the guest rooms ready!

Nice...Gina those glasses are perfect. Not only unbreakable, but they won't tip easily (I have issues with tippy glasses, lol). Can't wait for pkg 2.

The glasses are indispensable for entertaining outdoors - great choice Gina! I love the bright colors too. I have a couple of pieces of wicker serveware, and it's very versatile. It looks like the tray can hold a lot of good stuff, David:-) The condiment holders are fun, and they'll liven up your BBQ's for sure. Great choices Gina, you sure did your "David" homework!

What a nice set and theme, Gina. I'm not normally a wicker enthusiast, (mainly because I have no idea how to care for it) but that set is beautiful! The condiment set is so cute! The glasses are, too. What a neat package you got there, David. Enjoy!

David, I just had to get that wacky condiment set - how could I not? LOL. I always use acrylic glasses to take upstairs - just be careful not to let Lucy have one. Odo chewed the edges on a couple that held root beer float!

I love the wicker set, especially that the tray has deep sides...nothing will topple over nor slide right off!

Pool party at Davids! And don't worry about the booze ruining the glasses. I use those all summer on the patio and my wine never hurt them. Now the dishwasher will make the "craze".

What a wonderful package you sent to David, Gina. Personally, I'm not much for plastic, but those I would use in a heartbeat - the colors are so festive and I am sure will get tons of use. The baskets are just great.

Lakeguy, what a great package to receive with summer approaching! Love the colours of your glasses, and you won't have to worry about running short. The baskets are wonderful as well, and you will be able to get year round use out of them! I especially love the cutlery basket, which is always lovely for buffet set ups! Cute condiment cart!
