wanted: i'm having a party!!

I received a wonderful swap package from Susie Que and I am having a Tapas party! Although I received the pkg a few days ago and emailed Susie, I delayed posting because I had hoped to post the pics I took, but don't seem to be able to do that, darn it! Maybe I can email them to someone?

I now have everything I need for a Tapas party! First off, the box came packed with LOTS of small candies (snacks for while opening...)Everthing was beautiffully wrapped. Enclosed was a letter from Susie. Apparently our Susie doesn't know the meaning of the words "MINI swap", because she sent....

A wonderful book of Tapas recipes with gorgeous photos. Then came a bottle of Spanish olive oil. Susie had read that as a child I did not like sardines but that I was willing to try again, so she sent sardines packed in tomato sauce and another tin of them packed in olive oil. I tried them and I LIKE THEM NOW!!

The next item opened was a large jar of tuna stuffed giant green olives. These are delish! Then came a set of six small, square tapas plates in yellow and green with toothpicks for spearing and serving the treats I intend to make.

I saved the very best for last. Susie sent a GORGEOUS black china serving platter and the cutest liitle green leaf plate that is perfect for condiments.

I am planning a Tapas party and will try several of the recipes in my new book. Susie and I share another litle secret about this theme, but I can't spill the beans quite yet : )

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Susie! You picked the PERFECT theme for me! You chose things for me that I would have coveted had I seen them in the stores! Your follow up email was touching as well. I look forward to getting to know you even better!

I have keikis of Ansellia africana 'Garden Party' HCC/AOS. This is the yellow form. I'm looking for kiwi Actinidia arguta 'Issai' rooted or unrooted cuttings. I'm looking only for this particular kiwi because of it's size and because I wouldn't need a male plant. They are really nice looking keikis, currently with a lot of new roots growing. I have several, so in principle the number is negotiable. I can be persuaded to part with more than one keiki for rooted cutting(s) of 'Issai'. I have a few other plants to exchange--I'm really just looking for the kiwi at the moment. Planning a Garden Tea Party but I'm stuck...

I have had a formal garden tea party every year for more years than I can count. I have it during the June peak or the July peak of my garden. Its "ladies only"--and they all love to wear dresses, which we so seldom do anymore. Men, I have found, hate this kind of thing so I never have them. Worrying about weather was a monumental headache when I used to try to have the whole thing outdoors. Not to mention mosquitoes. So we have a slow tour of the garden--the one time of the season when it is all weeded and staked etc at the same time. Glasses of wine in hand. And yes I use the good crystal and the linen napkins that have to be ironed and all the rest. Then we go inside and munch our way thru delicacies for the rest of the afternoon. Everything pink and pretty--or green and white and garden-y. I have collected garden accessories and china, linens, silver for years and LOVE doing this--just once a year. It's so hard to get everyone together that my closest friends really look forward to it, taking time off from work if necessary. We have a good catch-up and are "ladies" for the afternoon. They are all gardeners so they really appreciate my garden efforts and struggles. As for shoes, most wear ballet flats of some kind, tho I have one friend who does not feel dressed without high heels. I figure she is aerating my lawn.

My favorite is the book as well. The dishes you mention in it sound so yummy. Besides, I am a little addicted to good cookbooks. I like the kind where the recipes are good AND there is a little chit chat about the recipes that inspires you to make them. Must be why I love the cooking forum. I'm just itching to start some seeds. Seeds I have are for warmer weather. So I am looking for early spring heirloom veggies such as greens that can be started now. I have an abundance of Indian Blanket - a native Texan wildflower. They have been growing in our pasture for decades and in the last several years they have really taken over. Our soil is extremely alkaline so I think they have acclimated to that. I also have small amounts of heirloom veggies you can see on my trade list.

That box sounds wonderful. Tikanas your description was wonderful, I can almost picture everything. However i am also looking forward to seeing the photos. The olives sound so yummy.

Sardines. Well, that is one item I never thought I'd see in a swap box, although I really like sardines. LOLOL

Patience my dear little butterfly's!!

I saw the book at B&N but it was backordered TWICE!!! I was aghast beucause it was the first thing I bought and them made the remaining purchases so there was no going back.

When I saw the platter I thought of Ann's garlic shrimp tapas and how striking it would look on a shiny black platter.

The sardines were a bit of a challenge because I saw that she didn't care for them while reading a post only after they were purchased but I thought, what the heck...Patricia can always set them out at her party and pehaps her guest would enjoy them. But now you can see it all worked out as she tried them again and liked them.
Gotta love the seven year rule-if you don't like something, and its been 7 years since you tried it, try it again-you never know.

Add me to the list of folks who want to see pics....I did take them but they all came out too dark...I think my batteries were low at the time.

I am so happy you like everything and your secret is safe with me!!

Boy oh boy! No pictures, keeping secrets, what next? Too mysterious! LOL

Serously, sounds like a great package - Susie ya done good. I like the 7 yr rule, no doubt about it, there's lots of stuff I eat now that I didn't like when I was younger. (And some the other way around!)

Looking forward to pix and revealed secrets!
