PDN Question

Several months ago I updated my PDN when I received an email from Pandigital stating that there was a big update available. It's been running well except that I am unable to run Youtube videos, which I thought I was supposed to be able to do. I emailed Pandigital and received the response below, which doesn't make much sense to me. Am I or am I not supposed to be able to view Youtube videos? My firmware version is:SH20_20110302_K_PD_INX7E_ENG_6410POP

At this time Adobe (Flash) is supported by our Planet, Star, and Nova readers, but not our previous versions. Our devices operate on several Android Operating Systems, including 1.5, 2.0 and 2.2. The 1.5 and 2.0 versions have no support for Flash capabilities.

They are telling you that their Planet, Star and Nova readers which are media tablets support flash but your Novel does not.

If you did that big update then yes you can see youtube but you must add the youtube app to it to be able to. On this page I will link to it is explained and they provide a link to the youtube app that will work with the PDN.
Get Started With Some Apps
scroll down the page to that section and you will see the link for the youtube app apk. that is what you need to get and install on your PDN.

the aldiko ereader app is my all time fave reader, it has so many great features, you can add that one too he has that link there too.

now that you have done that update there are a lot of apps you can install and use.
I get a lot of my apps from Amazon and you can also get the slide me app (actually it may already be on there) and get apps from them too. IF you do have slide me just open it and you will see lists of apps to choose from and you just pick them and install.

Luxrosa, I agree on White Maman Cochet...about 18 months old here, and a heartbreaker. Sending up a huge basal right now, love it. The Le Pactole already here is still a baby from October, but wants to bloom and bloom. At first I was dis-budding it...but I am not good about that. I figure, just let 'em bloom if they want to. If they take longer to get big, that's okay. I look forward to the new ones. I have heard Randy rave about G. Nabonnand, and can hardly wait, and what everyone has been saying about Princess de Nassau and Susan Louise has me pretty excited. Thanks for your kind words. Novice questions about hardy begonias

hardy begonias are truly hardy. i see them growing wild under benches at greenhouses all the time, so they don't seem to mind too much shade. i gave some to my mom and she planted them in a corner of her shaded patio. they seem to be doing quite well. these guys are hardy in my zone, 8, and the PDN catalog lists them hardy from z6-9. they can get quite tall. from a foot to two, i think, and they produce bubils so if you don't pull them, the clump will get wider every year. they die back to the ground and come up in the spring. watch them in the height of summer, as they may need to be watered more. so you can do your own research, there are plenty of pages with general care info for "hardy begonia," but you may also want to look up Begonia grandis, in addition, as this is the species name. ok here is the deal on google I just went to my gmail to see if it did it to me and yes that screen came up asking for my mobile number I have never given it and won't if you just go to the bottom of that page and hit save and continue it takes you right to you email you are not forced to fill out your phone number. Just skip it and hit continue. I did and it opened right to my email. They want your cell number as a safety net if someone is trying to hack your account, I give them an alternate email address instead and they contact me that way. Which they did recently when someone was trying to access my account. Plus they put a lock on my gmail till I answered them from my alternate email address. About B&N that is exactly why you keep a copy of all your books on your pc so you are not depending on them. I have a folder on my pc with a copy of all my books, plus I have them on the SD card in my tablet.

It is not always a good idea to go strictly by reviews, most of the reviews on items like this are done even before they are released to the public, or at least soon after they begin to sell. Those reviews are based on those early original models and of course the release price. Most of these type devices will have many updates to them just like windows gets updates, these fix the bugs as they are discovered. So if you are reading an early review that is saying something does not work right or complains of something it likely has had an update that fixed that problem. If I had gone by only the early reviews of the Pandigital Novel I never would have got one, and that would have been a huge mistake because it is a great device. I take the reviews as one part of my purchase decision. Now when you introduce a super low price like this special sale is that really makes a difference, because to me for $49 it is definitely worth picking up and trying because of course if I find it is not what I was hoping for I can bring it right back. So when looking at reviews of any tech item I pay close attention to the date that the review was written. Knowing that an old review is just that a review of an old device not the most recent version. I put a lot of weight on my decision when I can get direct word of mouth from someone that actually owns the device too. To each his own process.

Thanks to Bob and RC. RC, I was pretty sure that you said in one of your posts that you could run Youtube videos. I thought that they should run without an app. I have a lot to learn. I have a niece who likes to use my PDN for solitare and some other games I have on it but the game she really likes is Angry Birds. I installed it but it doesn't work the way it's supposed to. I was wondering if you had it installed on your PDN and if it works properly. If I can get that app to work I might get her a PDN for Christmas. She's 13 and doesn't like to read, I'm hoping that maybe having an ereader might be a bit of encouragement to read more.

Yes for that version of Android you will need to add apps for several things but most will work, usually the ones that won't will tell you.
I do not have regular angry birds I do have angry birds seasons on one of my tablets and it works fine but I do think I remember seeing something about the regular angry birds not working well on that version of android. but I have never played it much so don't know much about it.
There are a LOT of game apps though that can be put on and will play fine. I have several word games, mahjong, crosswords, puzzles, solitaire, lots of jewels games and penguin games and bubble busting games. they all work fine.

Like I said I get apps from slide me,( you do have to go into your pdn settings and make sure it is set to allow apps from other sites or something to that effect) I installed the little amazon app tool and I can get apps from the amazon app store, lots of free apps out there.

In case you do not have the latest flash player app here is a link to that app apk to install. With out that some things will not work.

IF you go here and get the skyfire browser you can view most videos in that browser it does flash and it is free.
Skyfire is a browser that supports Flash content,

I use that browser and also Dolphin.

where did you get the angry birds apk that you installed? I wonder if it could have been a bad apk.
there are several of the angry birds games here on this site you might try some of these because I know many of those will play on much earlier versions of Android.
