I think the door would look great black, too ,but we did ours a Charleston Green which is 3 parts black to 1 part hunter green.
It looks black head on but at an angle looks dark green. It softens the look a little.

lsst- actually our roof is green although you can't tell in these pics so it would look great in Charleston Green I bet! Something else on the to do list.

It looks great! I just love your sconces, they are gorgeous. Don't worry, ponydoc, it will all eventually be done. We've been in almost 10 months and there are still many things that need to be scratched off of the list. But life gets in the way sometimes. And now that we are in another season of football, AND (you will be able to appreciate this) my DH's new favorite toy is the Big Ten network, I'm sure not much will be accomplished in the way of projects until January, when it will be too cold. HA!!

Enjoy that beautiful house, and I'll throw my two cents in about the door. It is lovely, but if you are unhappy with it, paint it. I think black would be classic, and I love the suggestion of Charleston green. It would be a focal point. Just tack it on the end of your to-do list!

PONYDOC - Love your house. You would never know it wasn't the original farmhouse. I intend for that to be the best of compliments.

Funny you should mention painting the door black. I just saw one the other day and it caught my attention. It looked very nice. It was also a new build.

I've been following your build and love all the special personal thought to detail that you have put into your project. Take time to ENJOY your new home.

Thanks! I wish the photo had picked up on the green cast better. I think the Charleston green would look great with you dark green roof.

I really like your stone chimneys and the way your windows are trimmed out in the hardi. Those are some of the things I wished we had done.

Phonydoc, if you are not happy with the door I would paint it, otherwise your house is perfect. 1sst, your house is beautiful. Do you have any other pictures we can drool over?

Oooooooh, Charleston Green would be terrific! I've always loved your house, but it also leaves me with a tinge of sadness. The new old farmhouse is what I started out with, but just got changed and changed (DH didn't quite have the same plan in mind) until it's so far there's no resemblance! Not complaining, I love our house and we're so fortunate...but your's sure is great!!

Bumping to the top.

This week they have been finishing the stone on the foundation and the pierings/pilings etc. It looks really great. I will try to get more pics tomorrow. We just have to decide on what type of pillars etc we would like. We are holding off on the front porch railings for now. We kind of like it open. The back porch will have to have railings. Of course we need steps too!!

Here's the plan. We made several modifications, particularly to the master bath. We also removed the closets at the front door and made the doorways flanking the entry wider and equal. We also moved the bath from the foyer back to the music alcove area, changed the door and made it a full bath. We also did a 3 car garage and a walk out basement.

Here is another plan I happened upon when I was looking for a link to ours. It's is very similar and I am sure is "taken" from the one we built. I love the addition of the sunroom. I think I still would have picked ours.... I adore our clutter room.

OHhh, Ponydoc, I love it! I have a soft spot in my heart for farmhouses and, like landp, gave in to DH for his preference...Not that I don't love American Foursquare, too, and would probably be sad about giving that up if we'd gone farmhouse! I'm flakey that way...

I like the idea of painting your door. Also like the idea of something a little softer than black. Actually am not sure about connecting it with the roof, as then the roof's green will stand out more, and I'd like the roof to retreat and let the house stand out. I'd go dark gray, burgundy, --or cinnamon...The same color it is now, but without the imitation wood look.

I was wondering about space to entertain, especially for meals does the country kitchen work for this purpose or could the dinning area be increased by relocating the stairway. We are starting this building process & want maintain a farmhouse look but also want to be able to live & entertain in our new home.

ponydoc--I love farmhouses, and I especially love yours.

You did a great job on your house and I love the floor plan. You need a bell in the yard to call all of the kids in when they are out playing in the woods and swimming in the pond. Remembering here, since we actually had a bell like that on the farm that I grew up on.

Much more fun to have a new home that looks old, than an old house full of mice!

We are moving along with our house plans & I have some specific questions if you wouldn't mind or at least a few updated pictures - we just really love your house. Right now we have lots to decide but this is all "fun"!!

Hi everyone

Will try to get some updated pictures posted tomorrow evening. Esp of the inside. Hopefully the natives were not too restless this weekend! I have been on all weekend leaving the lunatics in charge at the asylum! LOL

red love- believe it or not, we already have a bell! It's still on it's post over near the new house but it works great. Have to decide where to put it and repaint.

Grey ridge - as fair as entertaining..... this is a pretty big house. We have had several large parties so far and it has flowed pretty well. A couple of things that really help that flow - we removed the closets on either side of the front door and opened that area up. We moved the 1/2 bath over to where the music alcove is and made it a full bath. We then enlarged the doorways to both the living room and the country kitchen and made them symmetrical. The foyer is a fabulous place to place an hors' d'oerve (sp?) table etc. The dining room is large enough for our table extended which is probably 10-12 if you are doing a formal dinner. The foyer would also be a great place for the "kids" table for a really large family gathering.

When we were building everyone assumed we would put a very large farm table in the kitchen. We actually had planned ( and did) to use that area for our family living space therefore leaving the living room for a more formal area. That will be evident in the pics.

The other change from the plans - my MIL is living with us- we didn't finish the library as such for the present, it's her room - thus the full bath.

We had a large KY Derby party soon after we moved in. It was informal with the food buffet style on the DR table. We used the "tool bench" area ( which we have done in laminate countertops with cabinets) of the clutter room as a bar- it was perfect- especially since we used the second fridge in the clutter room for all the chilled beverages.

I don't know what climate you live in - but the porches are also a great entertaining feature. Because of the large number of doors, people can flow easily from the porches and through the house.

As far as moving the stairs - I am sure you could move them "forward" and enlarge your dining room but they are dramatic and designed to be in the center of the house. I will try to get some good pics but they are a "bell tower" staircase - they are open from the top to the basement. You can stand in second floor hallway and see to the basement. They are finished all the way to the basement.

I agree- lots to decide and lots of fun!!
