Firefox Update?

Got a message telling me a new update to FF. 2.0.0.17. Is this good to go?

I got 2.0.0.17 yesterday and all is fine.
All my add-ons still work.
Didn't see any change what so ever.

Just a couple questions. Where is the up roar that FF has a security issue? Where is the march on the castle to burn FF at the stake? It seems every time IE has a concern users get all over it with condemnation. Though IE has a significant edge on total concerns, this is not the first time for FF either. If users don't hold Mozilla's feet to the fire for a comprehensive browser I can assure you in time they will become lacking. Like many previous flagship applications they could just be taking their turn at the head of the class. DA

you are welcome, I also did that update today on my firefox 2 and it went very smoothly with no errors, I think it was the last time I did the update that I saw the same error you mentioned. I know I do have a few older addons that are no longer updated and it might be that it tries to connect to those and it does not work, but I am just guessing LOL

that version of firefox is one that is still being supported and they are providing updates for it, I still have it on a couple of mine. But she can always try going to 8 and if she finds it does now work well for her she can go back to the same version she had. Just look at the verison number she has now and write it down so that if she does want to go back we know which version to provide. I have found that on some of the older computers that the latest version of firefox can cause some issues. I have had to help a few people revert back to the still supported lstest version of 3.xx. Security should be better of course on the most recent updates of any program.

Mine did it automatically which I didn't like. No problems just would have liked to have done it myself. How can I avoid this in the future or does it automatically do it for everyone that way? Thanks.

To get your updates as you prefer go to tools > options > advanced > updates.

I don't mind FireFox doing update automatically as long as it doesn't do version 3.. don't think I want that.

Thanks all, put it in without a hitch. I never let anything install automatically. Best to know what's going on.

I have Firefox 3.X and I still see brief flashing messages about a 2.X upgrade, too brief to read anything significant.
What do you suppose this means?

Why don't you want 3.x? Have you heard something negative about it?

I have. Do a search on these forums. I'm not putting that on, I believe it is still beta.

FF3 is not still beta. I have been running it for months and it is great. It's also safer to run than older versions of FF.
