Firefox updates, another trivial question, perhaps

If I click help>About Firefox on one of my computers, it says 8.x and "Congratulations, you are current".

On the other computer help>About Firefox pulls up "updating 11.0"

Why the difference in messages?

The current version of FF is 11. Close FF and completely shut down the comp which says 8.x. Reboot, open FF, and wait a while to see if it updates to the current version.

You may have to go to the download page for the current firefox and do the download from there, it happens sometimes with some versions. You can just put it on right over the existing one.

When I go to Winter Sowing in the upper left the link to "Other Forums" is red. When I go to Computer Help, or any other forums I have tried, in the upper left the link to "Other Forums" is magenta. If you have never used "Other Forums" you should see something else, blue perhaps. Some Firefox >tools>options>colors settings might make for different colors but Firefox has no place to treat Winter Sowing differently insofar as I can find. VBG There are some other places where the colors are different and like I say in the subject line it is trivial.

Yeah, sorry, I'm not expert enough to explain the difference, just pointing out that there is a difference. My banking sites work fine without Java. I wasn't implying your problem is Javascript, just that it's not Java. Javascript is not something you manually update, it's built into the browser and updates when you update the browser. Personally, I wouldn't rush to reinstall Windows if all the problems are in Firefox. First, I'd try the "reset" that you tried. If that didn't work, I'd uninstall Firefox and reinstall it. If that didn't work, I'd do it again but make sure it didn't leave anything behind. Make sure it removed my old Firefox profile, maybe even run CCleaner's registry cleaner to make sure all Firefox registry entries were removed. Then if after all that it still didn't work right... I'd consider reinstalling Windows. I'm not an expert though so I'm saying that's what you should do, just telling you what I'd do. BTW, every time I've ever reinstalled Windows, I dreaded it but ended up glad I did. Machine ran snappy new again. Sorry I can't help more.

how apropos!! I am surprised they determined her asbestos exposure was due to her talcum powder use so many years ago... I guess they ruled out all other possible exposures...a lifetime exposes you to so much stuff!! she must have been a big powder user... and predisposed to the ca... but, I think it's a good thing limiting how many particles of 'stuff' you breathe in... even if you don't have issues with asthma, etc... I have often wondered about gymnasts and other athletes that use large quantities of rosin on a regular basis and breathe in the dust... the particles are probably larger than talcum powder, but still...

Kudzu9: That's a good suggestion. I'll try uninstalling and reinstalling FF, 48.0.2. And I do have a list of sorts that I can go by to reinstall my Add-ons, since my husband's computer has the same ones I did. Next time, I'll keep my own list, though, because, who knows, HIS PC could someday have the same problem mine does. Azinoh: That's news to me. Not sure when I updated FF. In fact, I thought I had done so several weeks ago, but then got a notice that it needed updating, so went ahead again. Wow, it's beginning to look more and more as if something is seriously wrong somewhere. FF has always been unreliable in its updating on my PC. (Perhaps a sign of a deeper problem somewhere.) I have it set to automatically update, and presume that the updates were coming from Mozilla, but it has been erratic in doing so. "Help>about FF" leads to a box that says "FireFox is up to date." Now, obviously a lie, but I believed it. I will reconsider the number of add-ons I have. The main ones were a pop-up blocker and IE View lite. Some, I know, I installed because a site I wanted to see required them (or it?), but when possible, I had set things so that the add-ons I didn't need often were temporarily disabled and had to ask permission. This is the second time I have had trouble with Scrapbook. I will definitely go check out the reviews of it; never did that, though I always check reviews before buying things! Hm. What I like about Scrapbook is that even if a site disappears from the Internet, whatever you have saved in Scrapbook is still accessible. With very important info, I generally copy and paste it into Word and save it as a document, but that is tedious. I appreciate all the comments and help and will post again re new developments.

Just found out that FF 12 is now the official latest.

I imported my post from another thread.

FF12 beta 1 was released around March 16, 2012, followed by five more betas. The most recent beta 6 around April 18, 2012. A supposed final was released around April 22, 2012. I have read that there is some user confusion as to it being an actual final version, or just a RC (release candidate). I have also read some reported concerns regarding stability of this final/RC version. I myself am waiting for a clarification and a popular position on the release.

As always, with any application a user must use caution when exploring betas and RCs.

Interesting event just now this morning.

Through the FF release channel it was reported an upgrade was available for my system; specifically v12. I figured what the heck because it would be just busy work if there is indeed a problem with the new version. Well, my system failed to connect to the download site and it was recommended I retry. I did with still no success. I then closed FF and tried once more. The release channel update reported that my FF 11 was the current version.

I am returning to my prior wait and see position.

Mine updated automatically, and it seems to work far better for one site I frequent using FF. For some reason that site never worked well with FF11, but now it seems sure and fast w/FF12.

Well, with a moment of boredom and a couple of Miller Lites in hand I thought I would try again. It upgraded to v12.0 without a concern.

However do be warned, the previous announcement that all add-ons would continue to be compatible beginning with v11.0 apparently must not have panned out. I lost an add-on as incompatible. In fairness they also reported that they would notify me when a compatible version was released. If it comes I suppose.

Yes, one of my ZA add-ons is not compatible now. Same message about notification.
