Trivial question #? Occasional message to 'get flash player'

I see this occasional message to 'get flash player' and if I click on it the next screen indicates Adobe Flash Player 10.2.153.1 and says 'You may have to temporarily disable your antivirus software.'

But if I turn off Avast and click on download nothing happens. I see this rarely and I can live without whatever they want to show me but it nags at me. What's (not) happening?

Firefox 3.6x, old XP, Avast anti virus

I have gotten that message at times. I disable my anti virus then I click on the message and it takes me somewhere to download it. That is where it throws me. I have to look and look to find the actual download. Sorry I can't be of more help. They will be able to help you in the help forum or Raven may be along soon and will help you.

you need to choose the IE flash player to download with IE and you need to choose the firefox version and download it with firefox if you use those browsers, You must get the proper version and use that browser to download and install. when you go to that link Zep provided called reinstall flash you will see which browser it is for if it is not the rigth one then you see that link that says Different operating system or browser? click that and it will offer you the links to the other options you could run the Secunia OSI and it will tell you what needs updating nad also provide the link directly to it. for any of these make sure any extras are unchecked including on the download page any thing McAfee or Norton related. yea that is what I thought. Honestly you probably don't want that desktop search one, my husband accidentally got that one on his work pc and it stopped him from doing his work because it took forever for it to scan the entire pc and catalog it so that it was all available for the desktop search. Any that are not critical are up to the individual.

Start over and uninstall flash see link, Follow all directions, close all applications as indicated at link. Then: Reinstall flash from here Uncheck the McAfee Scan thing! http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ once you download it, close all applications including browser. Then install it. I will caution you on using any of those type applications on a facebook page it is much safer to go to the actual game site home page and play there, any app like that on facebook can be and have often been altered to infect a users pc by changing the scripting of the app. I urge people to NEVER use any type of 3rd party app on facebook or any other social networking site, people set those things up specifically to entice people to use them and get infected. Since you have been using them I would urge you to download, update and run a full scan with malwarebytes free to see if you are possibly infected. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware for a reality check just go to google and search for facebook virus for just a few of the many types of infections out there. Facebook and my space are a hackers dream land.

it is important to keep your flash updated to the latest version and you need it for each browser you may have so one for Ie one for firefox etc.

never do it from a website when it pops up that way because you never know if it is going to send you to the real flash download or some fake one that will infect you always go right to the flash download site or you can use the secunia scanner which will tell you everything that needs to be updated and where to download from.

get the one for the browser you are using when you go to do the download once you do it then go here to make sure it is installed properly

Curious happening. My computer popped up for adobe flash update. (I was not on any sites) I proceded to follow along. When it got to "I read and agree..", I clicked to read the notice. Up came the adobe page with all the different updates. I clicked on flash 10.2 and got an ? arabic written page. I cancelled the update, for now.

I don't support having to shut down the AV particularly when notified to do so by a pop-up. Too many bad things can happen. I have for years upgraded versions of Adobe Shockwave and both Flash Players (IE and non-IE), and never had to shut down my AV.

There have been several Flash upgrades recently in a short period of time, and a new Release Candidate for IE v10.3.181.5 is now being offered.

I can only warn, if you get any popup telling you to turn off your AV regardless of the focus application don't. Research the offering by going to the manufacturer's homepage or a trusted download site, CNET, Filehippo, Major Geeks just to name a few. Finally, after doing your homework, and if you still have doubt come here.

Again, when it comes to turning off your AV you cannot ever be overly cautious.
