Problem with Computer

The problem is, I am using the computer and all at once it shuts down, I turn off the button, then let it rest for awhile and I can turn it back on. Before I turn it off, I can hear a clicking sound. Hope someone can help me with this.............Thank you................

Most likely you need to take off the case and clean off all the dust that is on the CPU fan and heat sink, also you need to clean off all the dust that is on the power supply fan.

Most of the time a clicking sound is the sound of a dying hard drive.
If you're fortunate, it may be the collection of dust on the motherboard fan making noise.
Should start backing up and saving anything that is important to you, because if it is the hard drive, failure is not far away.

Just a bit of amplification on what Randy has said. Make sure the computer is unplugged from its power source before going inside and trying to clean

you would only have MSE if you went and downloaded it and installed it, the program does NOT come with windows. You would need to totally remove AVG when and if you do get MSE, as stated use the removal tool which you can find here. Antivirus Product Removal Tools Keep malwarebytes if that is actually what you have, it is difficult to know when you do not use the actual names in your post. What does this line that you posted mean??? "the malware small window at the bottom of my screen" are you referring to malwarebytes? or is it some rogue malware??? Tell us exactly what it is you see and what it goes to. Names of security programs are extremely important because the people that want to infect your computer with bad stuff create the bad stuff and put names on it that are very similar to real programs and if we do not know which you have well we can't really help. And zep is right the mini is not really meant to be a main computer it is small in every way not just size, it has a very small processor and since yours runs windows 7 it takes a lot to run that and the little mini will struggle. but you do need to tell us exactly what is slow, is it surfing the web, is it booting up, is it opening programs on it????

Hidden taskbar at bottom of screen, disappears when not using, when paused over, when in IE, it shows itself copied on top of itself 5 times. Spybot S&D run last week. I run all my checks at least once a month. Are we way off point here? I just wanted to know if I need to change anything or take any special precautions before re-installing XP on this beast. I have run in safe mode, no changes in problems. Am thinking install was corrupted or done wrong at shop, and it's closed. I need this thing to work right, I have to apply for jobs on it, usually I can't complete an application for it not accepting my input or not changing to next page of application. Problems are numerous, and I have not been able to fix them myself. 6 Oct '09 was date of shop install, I've probably spent 2 or 3 hundred hours attempting fixes. Last time I tried re-install, before new hard drive, it took 12 hours. That included install of high speed internet connect, 4 in 1 printer,(succesful) Avira, Spybot, Money, Works, Keyboard and mouse, camera program, all drivers, SP3, etc. I was careful to shut down between all installs, as directed. I could not get to this site, which I had read and occasionally used for years. Many problems with IE8. I'm so grateful you have all taken your time to try to help me. I'm so frustrated after all this "investigating" and most of what you've all asked me to check, I'd already done. Thanks so much for your help.

DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) is carried on the upper bandwidth of a POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service) line. This is why you can be on the Internet via your DSL connection and still carry on a telephone conversation even though you only have one phone line. If you aren't using a DSL filter, you shouldn't really be hearing static on the line. It would be more of a steady "hissing" sound. And if you do have a DSL filter, properly installed, then the DSL shouldn't cause any extra sounds on your POTS line. If I were you, I'd do the following -- first, have your husband disconnect the red wire that he connected to the other red wire. Any problems caused by the problem on the line on the highway wouldn't have anything to do with the red wires, so if your service was OK previously without those being connected (and because your husband doesn't really know what he connected), they should be undone. Then, check to see if the static has been eliminated. If you still have static after the red wires are undone, then physically unplug EVERY phone in the house from the jacks. Then, one by one, plug in a phone and check to see if there is static. Often a phone will "go bad" and cause static.

Many computer motherboards have a heat sensor under the CPU chip. If the temperature gets too hot, the computer is automatically shut down to protect the processor from damage.

The CPU usually gets too hot because of improper cooling or overclocking. I would definitely blow out the inside of the computer. Try some canned air or a small vacuum with a reverse setting that pushes air instead of pulling it in. I don't like vacuums as they pull at wires and other parts. Dust sometimes clings to fan blades and must be scrubbed off. The cotton swab sticks sold at electronic stores work well when dipped in rubbing alcohol.

I would suspect the clicking sound is a fan blade weighed down by dust, or a damaged bearing inside of a fan. If a good cleaning does not fix the problem, I would check each fan. You can temporarily stop a fan with a plastic coffee stir stick as offered at most fast food restaurants and donut shops. Push the stick into the fan until the blades stop and listen for the clicking sound. If it stops, you found the cause. You should only stop the fan for a second or two. The plastic stick should not damage the fan. Never use a wooden stick. If the problem is a fan, it must be replaced. If its the power supply fan, you will have to replace the entire power supply.

The problem may very well have a different cause. I don't think its a hard drive problem as they usually cause a computer to lock up instead of shutting it down.

Just wanted to say a big THANK YOU to the people that helped me........I cleaned and dusted the inside of the computer today and I haven't had any problem since........

genes, thanks for the reminder, first time case openers may not think of this.

ang1947, good job.
Even after a few months use, fans become very dirty.
The processor over heats and the computer shuts down to protect itself.

Another point to make is most computer desks are designed to hide the tower behind a door. When the computer is running that door should remain open as the heat can build up and cause a multiude of problems.
