There are some pretenders out there who give the appearance of the recommended Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. Is this the application you are speaking of?

Have as many browsers as you wish. Too many is not a concern. You will just have to select one as the default.

If indeed you have MSE, or you install it anew, you could get rid of both AVG and MBAM. I wouldn't though. I would keep MBAM as a tiered approach to detection and concern resolution. If you do remove AVG be sure to use the Removal Tool.

There have been many, many threads here at the forum on complaints of slow systems. Using the search engine on the forum's homepage a basic search using the keywords "slow computer" (sans quotes) will give you access to many of these threads to read at your convenience.

To me, the words "slow computer" mean that all operations of the computer are slow including boot up/shut down and opening/closing of any application. Based on the info provided, I can't really tell if he/she really means a "slow computer" or "slow Internet". It would be helpful to know. I also take issue with the common worry that one program or another uses "too much room". We need to know how big your hard drive is and how much of it is already used. Unless you have already used more than 80% of your available space, I doubt you are running out of room. The more important concern is how much MEMORY (not hard drive space) the machine has and how many programs you are trying to run at the same time. Do you have 2GB? 3GB? 4GB or more? This we need to know as it is an important factor in determining how well your machine should run before it becomes "slow".

It is what it is, basically a simple, stripped down computer with a small screen and running the operating system of a cell phone. Ideal for web browsing, but limited as to what it can do.

you would only have MSE if you went and downloaded it and installed it, the program does NOT come with windows. You would need to totally remove AVG when and if you do get MSE, as stated use the removal tool which you can find here.

Keep malwarebytes if that is actually what you have, it is difficult to know when you do not use the actual names in your post. What does this line that you posted mean???

are you referring to malwarebytes? or is it some rogue malware??? Tell us exactly what it is you see and what it goes to.

Names of security programs are extremely important because the people that want to infect your computer with bad stuff create the bad stuff and put names on it that are very similar to real programs and if we do not know which you have well we can't really help.

And zep is right the mini is not really meant to be a main computer it is small in every way not just size, it has a very small processor and since yours runs windows 7 it takes a lot to run that and the little mini will struggle.

but you do need to tell us exactly what is slow, is it surfing the web, is it booting up, is it opening programs on it????

OK- I will try to be more specific in the future. I don't know right know what size the memory is. I have not been on the computer since that night. It started up as fast as usual, but seemed to freeze later on in the evening. I only look at email and surf. I do not download anything/music/apps, unless yahoo mail counts. I don't irder anything anymore.
The same nite I had the questions our local tv news had a segment about people outside 'looking' for computer systems to get on to. 'systems' is probabaly not the correct word. I do have to put in a 'log on' password in order for me to get the computer to work. It is encrypted. Is this no longer good enough?
