Question about swap category???

I know the rules...but I'm having a hard time with the "method" one..

I can't find alot of info on my partner regarding this part..

So I keep coming back to "serving" as a method..LOL

So I'm going to break the rules and include serving instead of baking, grilling, broiling, boiling....Is that okay????

To bad if it's not...cuz that's where my mind is.. LOL

you could always post another question for everyone to answer which would might also help other people who are stuck as well. (hint, hint)

Good idea, earthly. Title of the thread: What's your favorite cooking method? or What cooking methods do you wish you knew more about? I've definitely posted fishing threads like that before. You can post that kind of thing on the main page too, thereby increasing your responses.

In any case, I think "serving" is as fine a cooking method as any. And I don't see the categories as hard & fast as far as being unbreakable rules. I'm sure your swap partner will love whatever you send!

It is sort of ironic that this board is named "Round Robin" and there are so few round robins on it. I don't know about any rules regarding them, but there may be some. Many have been members longer than I have and may explain this better, but my understanding from reading comments is that there were two problems that came up - the length of time it took for a true round robin to go from person to person and "make all the rounds" (never would work for plants and even iffy for bulbs) and the second issue was a human factor - the robin not continuing to circulate at all or being delayed a long time (even though the inital posting gave a certain time for mailing it back out) or someone taking more than their fair share/everything worthwhile and adding only common seeds, mislabeled seeds, packets with only chaff, spoiled bulbs or whatever the case was - anyway, not something worthwhile. I think there are some small round robins that are done from time to time with regular members. Several years ago I participated in one that was called something like Victoriana (Victorian type garden seeds and things that were handcrafted with a Victorian flair) and it worked really well. That is the only one I have participated in. I have never hosted one and I can't say anything more from personal experience. Those are just some of the things I seem to recall members discussing. Maybe that does more than answer your question... If you are hosting your swap here, it will be great to see how it does. Jeanne

Sandsquid, Do you need landscaping plants for the church? I had two small holly bushes on each side of my garage that the builders put in. I always hated them there because every time my daughter and I would walk by them from getting out of the car we got poked. I purchaed something to replace that spot and was going to do it this evening. While my husband for once was feeling nice last evening and dug up the holly bushes for me. I think he did an ok job, he got the root ball out good. They are in good shape, I just realized last night they actually have the nursery tags still attached to them. (Planted 3 years ago by builders) Only thing is I had planned on bring them to the swap but I had to get some sort of container to put them in (I was going to do that tonight) Well last night by the time I got home and settled it started raining and the tornado watches and all and I didn't want to get back out to store. They have alot of dirt around their roots and with the rain today they should be ok today right? (sorry newbie question) I saw my neighboor putting top soil on her yard last night. I am sure I can get those empty bags to transport them in. Should work as a make shift temporary transport. I know you were talking about trying to spruce the church up and figured that these are used alot for commercial landscaping and that I would offer them up if you need. Them. They are medium to smaller size

Terri, Baking, grilling, broiling, boiling were just examples. Serving, would definitely fit into that category. I'm sure that others have come up with even more ideas for this category.

I used a different "method" as well. But I can't tell you what it is because I think it would probably be easy to guess who my partner was if I did. LOL!

I had a really tough time with this theme, too, so as soon as my partner gets his/her package (any day now...)you will all see that I went "themeless"! LOL

ROFL hey if I included a P-Touch labeler I think that leaves the door wide open for other interpretations!

I considered the Beverage Set I sent to Linda satifying the "method" category. Making beverages is a cooking method, isn't it?

I think the categories are up for intrepretation and I think it really should be up to the Sender. Even the apron I sent to Linda, which actually was packing material, could be classified as a Cooking Method or at least for me it could be.

Serving pieces would definitely qualify as a Method. I buy specific pieces for certain dishes and I am sure others do as well and this is a "Method" in my book.

I had trouble with the Ethnic Category which for most was probably easy. I almost went to the extreme of getting something "Made in China" for that one!

It was a rule breaking monkey, Terri. A big, furry guy sticking out his tongue (that sort of sounds like my DH, lol).

Gotta love rule breakers!
