I go to several swaps and each one is a little different. They all have in common that you bring whatever plants you want to share. I have not been to a theme swap but that could be done, ie: hostas, everyone brings only hostas to share. Some include trading other garden items, books, magazines, pots, potting mix, etc. None of them asks for a list of plants. When a known group of people are getting together including lists can be helpful. Not requiring lists adds to the surprise find and flexiblity. Trades are generally not worked out ahead although sometimes that is done informally. Some swaps are more structured than others. One is a free for all. Everyone brings items to swap and put them behind their car in a big parking lot. People go from one car to another choosing what they want. This continues until all items are gone or until the end of the swap. Swappers are to take home any items they brought that others did not take. This is not a one for one swap as some people bring many items just wanting to share. Others are very structured. Items are placed in an area and swaps are done in rounds. After items are placed each person is asked to tell about the items that are being shared. This is an opportunity for all to see what is available and what they will choose during the rounds. Round 1 each person chooses one item. Everyone goes to pick up their one item at the same time. Round 2, two items. Round 3, three items. Round 4, choose as many items as one wishes. Some swaps include visiting and food (potluck) before or after. However you set up your swap I'm sure you will have fun.

Hi Susan, I'm not a "senior" host by any means! However, I believe that you swap should be dealt with in the way that you are most comfortable with. The only concern to be had is that everyone's email is current so that each member is able to contact the other for the mailing address if that is the route you choose. Otherwise, it's pretty much in you hands as the the method of swapping. I, for one, am very much looking forward to this new exchange! Best of luck deciding!

Sandsquid, Do you need landscaping plants for the church? I had two small holly bushes on each side of my garage that the builders put in. I always hated them there because every time my daughter and I would walk by them from getting out of the car we got poked. I purchaed something to replace that spot and was going to do it this evening. While my husband for once was feeling nice last evening and dug up the holly bushes for me. I think he did an ok job, he got the root ball out good. They are in good shape, I just realized last night they actually have the nursery tags still attached to them. (Planted 3 years ago by builders) Only thing is I had planned on bring them to the swap but I had to get some sort of container to put them in (I was going to do that tonight) Well last night by the time I got home and settled it started raining and the tornado watches and all and I didn't want to get back out to store. They have alot of dirt around their roots and with the rain today they should be ok today right? (sorry newbie question) I saw my neighboor putting top soil on her yard last night. I am sure I can get those empty bags to transport them in. Should work as a make shift temporary transport. I know you were talking about trying to spruce the church up and figured that these are used alot for commercial landscaping and that I would offer them up if you need. Them. They are medium to smaller size

I always post a picture. I know some KTers don't know how to post pictures but I hope they will post a description of the items they received anyhow. It is nice to see what everyone got and I do get ideas for future swaps. I just mailed my partner's swap box today. I have to remember to buy 'lighter' items next time! lol Hope she likes all the goodies!
