Tiling pony wall
Comments (6)We have a pony wall in the process of being tiled. Our pattern for the walls is "stacked" and not "running bond" like yours. I think yours looks fine. I agree that I think the three vertical tiles across the pony wall are all three bullnose. In our case, the bullnose are only on the side with the regular subway tiles laid horizontal on the front of the pony wall. I'm just showing you this as another example. I think your contractor was being a bit creative in a good way by laying the tiles vertically. But knowing how these things go sometimes, I also might suspect that he saved some tile cutting, especially if the bullnose tiles were narrow and allowed for an installation across the front of the pony wall with cuts not being necessary there (or at least possibly minimizing cuts) - not a bad thing. But bottom line, I think yours looks quite nice. I probably would have accepted that as an option if my contractor had offered it. I personally think as long as it looks straight and clean, this might be one of those things that is "six of one and half a dozen of the other" but YMMV....See MoreUndermount Tub Surround & Deck Questions
Comments (1)My bathroom is currently being built. We just had someone come out to measure the tub surround/shower bench area before fabricating the Caesarstone countertop. We thought we would have a countertop lip going out over the vertical tile. Luckily we realized that this would create a gap in the hinge area of the glass door--and we had the fabricator remeasure. The tub surround will have an overhang everywhere except by the shower bench/door hinge area where the Caesarstone will be flush. Hopefully everything will work out! If you are interested I will post pictures when it's done....See MoreDoes it matter which shower glass protectant?
Comments (25)My email this morning contained a new message from the Guardian Glass authorized fabricator on Maui. This is for 3/8" glass 28" X 76" w/brushed nickel hinges and handle, bottom sweep. Clear (green tinge) without coating.....$1633 Clear (green tinge) with ShowerGuard.....$1811 Low-Iron (Starphire by PPG) without coating.....$1883 Low-Iron (Starphire by PPG) with Enduroshield.....$1988 Low-Iron with ShowerGuard.....$2130 (15% more than Clear w/coating) The new bid was prompted by a rep from Guardian Glass Co. calling the Maui fabricator to explain that today's Low-Iron w/coating does NOT have any tint. The fabricator's bad experience was with glass ordered five years ago. The glass company rep tells me the 10-year replacement warranty on the coating is only for the purchaser. It does not transfer to a new owner. You must *register* the purchase with Guardian Glass Co. for this to take effect. (You supposedly get $20 rebate when you register...big whoop.)...See MoreShower Wall Tile edge and Pony Wall not Lined up
Comments (16)I understand and appreciate your thoroughness in trying to review with limited information. The root of the problem is each sub and project manager did not check the work they were building on. Otherwise could have been prevented. This is why I was afraid to do a project as I am not a contractor and very scary when I know more then they do. In my opinion, the pony wall (that I never wanted in the first place) is out of alignment and therefore everything else is too. On the back of the pony wall, they built the cement out too far and now can't install the tile within the trim, ugh...See MoreMongoCT
