Update on Lee

I just talked to Max. After 7 1/2 hours , Lee is out of surgery and according to the doctor, the surgery was a success. It turns out that Lee needed two heart valves replaced, not one, and a bypass. She isn't conscious yet and probably won't be for a few hours. Max was waiting to go in and see her.

Max and Lee really appreciate all the emails and support they have received from concerned forum friends.

Please continue sending your good vibes Lee's way.

Jay, We hit 28 degrees this morning so it was colder here than it was there. How strange is that? Love County's Mesonet station had the lowest low for this morning when I looked at the map, but I didn't look later in the day to see if any corrected data had popped up. Sulphur and Tahlequah bottomed out at 29. We also had the highest high--73 at the mesonet station but it hit 75 at our house. From 28 this a.m. to 73/75 this afternoon was a pretty big change. I wish the weather would settle down so we could get on with planting the warm-season crops. I do have tomato plants in the ground and corn, but have been waiting to see what next week's forecast does before I plant anything more. My pepper plants either need to go into the ground or I need to pot them up to bigger pots if I am going to hold them for a while longer. Our soil temps are decent and our high temps are nice, but once or twice a week we hit the lower 30s or upper 20s. I hope you don't see the 100s in May...but it isn't like any of us have any say in the matter. We usually don't warm up as early as you do so I don't expect 100s until June. Even some potatoes that were covered with a row cover that should have given them 4 degrees of freeze protection had fairly significant freeze damage this morning when I uncovered them, so I believe the temperature was lower at the ground level than the 28 degrees recorded at 5' above ground. Karen, thanks for including me on the list. Sherry, no I am not in the hospital, thank goodness. Just having some issues with some hematomas and decisions re surgery vs. risks and keeping the blood clots at bay. Ellen, I am glad your dad doesn't have pneumonia, I hope he gets well enough to go home soon. Nancy: I hope your Mom's shingles get better soon. I hope she got the shot within the time limit that is supposed to help, as it certainly helped DH not so long ago. Trip to Denver in May, hope to see Lee

Lee, Kevin was able to extend his vacation by one day, and so we will be able to go to both Boulder and NM. We'll be arriving in Denver the last Thursday in May (but we don't have our tickets yet), and then Sunday we will go to NM with Nancy to see Aunt Gerry, spend the night in NM and Nancy will be able to take us to the Denver airport on Monday. Nancy is retired, and so she should have available time. This way we can check out of our hotel on Sunday morning, return the rental car, and save an extra day of hotel and rental car that we would not be using. I think it would be wasteful to do it any other way. I'm glad that the dates work for you. I think it should be beautiful at that time of year, but with my luck, it will rain. Nancy said that we could stay with her if she had room, but she sold her house and moved into a retirement villa, which is only one bedroom. I was fine with staying in a hotel, but I didn't want to pay for a hotel in Denver if I would be spending the night in NM. Rental cars are not cheap either, and the money I save can be used on a return trip, if necessary. Ann, thanks for the phone call today - it was nice to hear your voice again. I feel a bit strange that I had to go through the forum to contact people, but at least it works! Unfortunately, I'm not extremely busy at work right now, and so I can have a fairly long phone conversation. I have plenty of projects that I'm working on, but I don't have deadlines at the moment. A fair portion of my time is spent dreaming up new designs, and so it might not look like I'm busy when I'm thinking about what I'm going to do next. For now, I am designing more furniture than they are able to make, and so I spend a bit of time helping production with certain technical issues, particularly with technical writing and documenting warehouse procedures for assemblies or construction. Just got off the phone with Max and have some better news to share. Without going into details, Lee has had a very rough time of it since Saturday and things were not good, but they have started to improve.

Max asked me to pass on his his appreciation to everyone for their concern.

Lee still needs you to keep those good thoughts and prayers going. As soon as I hear anything else I'll let you know.

I haven't stopped thinking about Lee, and I still feel positive about how she will pull out of this. I knew it was going to be difficult and that it was going to be a major ordeal, but I still have faith in her strength and perseverance. I believe that her strong will and personal strength will help pull her through this, but I continue to send positive thoughts and encouragement her way.

Drats, I'm getting confused on the threads & missed this. Thanks, Ann for the update but it's not the news I was hoping to hear. I am so happy that she is starting to turn the corner.

Hang in there, Lee. We are all putting our energy with you.

Lee, when I was in Neuro-critical care & on a heavy morphine drip I was unable to move, not even a blink much less speak. People thought I was totally sedated from the morophine. They spoke around me like I couldn't hear. I could. I could even see. Before surgery, I had asked DH to please bring along my little card that has the poem, "Footprints In The Sand" written on it. Day & night, DH sat by my bed & read me that poem. He didn't know that I could hear him. He later told me he was reading it for him. But I could hear every word he said & it kept me fighting to get out of that critical care unit & into ICU & from ICU into a regular room.

I can't get the poem to you so I'm going to do the next best thing & write it here...

FOOTPRINTS IN THE SAND

One night a man had a dream. He dreamed He was walking along the beach with the LORD. Across the sky flashed scenes from His life. For each scene He noticed two sets of footprints in the sand. One belonging to Him and the other to the LORD.

When the last scene of His life flashed before Him, he looked back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the path of His life there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times of His life.

This really bothered Him and He questioned the LORD about it. LORD you said that once I decided to follow you, you'd walk with me all the way. But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life there is only one set of footprints. I don't understand why when I needed you most you would leave me.

The LORD replied, my precious, precious child, I Love you and I would never leave you! During your times of trial and suffering when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you.

I am praying for you, Lee. You too, Max.

Thank you Ann. I've never met Lee in person, but I do know how written words can convey someone's personality - at least they sure do hers...Lee is so kind and sweet and she wrote the most heartwarming words to me when we did the Winter Romance Virtual Dinner and it was Scott's and my anniversary...not to mention her gentle nature that comes through in each one of her posts.

She and Max have been in the forefront of so many of our minds and our hearts as they get through this! Now praying that things get easier each day...:-)

Oh, yea! The news I was hoping for. I'm at Elery's, getting ready for Christmas with his kids, but I just had to log on and check in on Lee.

I'm still sending all my good thoughts and prayers to Lee and Max, and everyone who loves them, and I'll keep checking. One of these days soon, it'll be Lee who posts, I'm sure of it.

Yesterday was the first time I have been to the "conversation forum" and it was all about Lee and the prayer chain that was going on. It was so emotional for me. I don't know Lee but I'm sure one could not have more loving, prayerful support. I will add my prayers for you too, Lee. What a great group you all are!

I spoke with Charlotte tonight and the good news is that Lee is continuing to improve. She is still in ICU and I'm not sure how much longer she will be there. So to answer Cathy's question, I don't know if she will be home for Christmas. I suspect that the answer is probably no. But I will ask Max when I talk to him tomorrow or Monday.

Thank Ann for the continuing updates I have been checking a couple times a day. So glad to know everything is finally going in a good direction. I hope they donÂt send her home to soon.

Sending healing thoughts and prayers to Lee and family. The best Christmas gift will be getting out of ICU and rapid recovery.

Jude, this is a great group of people on this forum, so I hope you stick around on both the discussions and conversation side.

When I first started coming to this forum I asked a question about saffron. Lee took it upon herself to send me some saffron and some smoked paprika. She was a very busy person, but took time out of her very hectic schedule to package up and send me a gift for no reason other than to help educate me and to share. She even wrote me a note, including a recipe in which I could use the smoked paprika. So many people on this forum are like that.

I'm still pulling for you, Lee!
