Winter formal time again!

Alice didn't go to the winter formal of her own school. She decided to skip it and spend the dress money on snowboarding attire/equipment. But she was invited to be part of a casual group of just friends at another school. She borrowed a dress and did her own hair. I popped for nails and half of the Betsy Johnson shoes. Alice made the corsages and boutonnieres for herself and Kaitlyn. My cheapest formal ever!

She said it was the most fun she's had at a formal. It was very low pressure. She came home this morning after spending the night at the house of the pretty blond in pink and black and begged for a big breakfast.

Sarah, Kaitlyn, and Alice. Sarah recycled a long dress into a short one. Kaitlyn borrowed a dress from Sarah. Everyone was frugal this time.

Gawd they are beautiful! Can't believe the colour coordination between the guys and gals......the girls were clearly in charge! LOL

Awwwe! Thanks guys! Its nice to be back. Jenny, Nice to see you are still here! So there is ANOTHER "vine guy" here now huh? LOL! You see, im not the only nutcase thats obsessed with vines, lol! Im not exactly sure what im going to be doing this summer, or where im going to be doing it, but you can rest assured that there will be vines involved. I already have 6 MF seeds that are now just sprouting, and 14 MG seeds that are all sprouted too, and ready to go in thier starter pots. =o) Girlsaylor, thank you for the kind words. I really appreciate that. I just try and pass along what ive learned myself here or just from my experiences. Im not sure yet if there is anything I want or need that I dont already have, but rest assured that if I do come across something I want and cant easily find, ill definately be asking YOU! =o) Greenfrank, Yep. That would be me. The MF vine was growing into my bedroom window. LOL! And yes those were my storm photos. We had WAY more than out fair share of sever thunderstorms here last summer, and most of those photos were takin one night when we got hit by 5 severe thunderstorms in a ROW, one right after the other. I still dont know yet exactly what my living situation is going to be, but you can rest assured, as I said earlier, that I WILL be gardening, and it WILL include vines! =o) I will definately keep you all posted on what im growin and how its doing. I can tell you my Clematis has already come back, as well as my Catmint, and some of my hosta's too. Theres other things just randomly coming up on my balcony now, but im not exactly sure what they are. I belive that some of them are Catnip seeds, and some are the lambs quarters. Last year I allowed a couple of lambs quaters "weeds" to live on my balcony, but I dont think I will be do ing that ever again, as they are PROLIFIC seeders just like Catnip , and then some. I havent done anything to my balcony yet, its still in the same sad, sorry, and VERY MESSY state its been in all winter. I havent gotten started on it yet because I am unsure if I will be living there this summer or not, and I dont want to start my garden there only to have to take it all down when/ if I move. If a move is going to take place, it probably will happen before the end of may though, so Ill still have a whole summer to get stuff going. Right now, im just starting things for my S/O's balcony. He is also interested in gardening too, and wants to do a very nice garden on his balcony. So well both be d oing that together. =o) Thanks again for all the kind words!

One of my neighbors growing up had a formal (and seemingly completely unused) formal living room with a rug that color and and mirrored wall (the whole wall). It was a disturbing room, more from the mirrors and formality than the blue.

I sleep hot so I like a cool room at night. I always have the ceiling fans on and I have a small table fan on my side blowing directly on me, I also have a big stand fan that may or may not be on. I currently am keeping the thermostat set at 66 heat. I don't like cold feet or hands I have some really thick sock slippers from bed bath and beyond that I wear during the day but I can't wear socks in bed it bothers me. I don't like heavy covers, I have the sheet a very light weight fleecy type blanket (just put on Monday night) and the matelasse quilt coverlet. Occasionally if we get really cold weather I will swap out and put the light down comforter on instead. But most of the night I kick the covers off. I wake up and the side without covers feels like ice so I warm it up for a while. My poor husband is always freezing and tries to steal all the covers. We some times put a throw or blanket over the top of his side. My little bitty dog is usually attached to me at the neck or side she appreciates my heat lol.

Holy smokes. I can hear my dad saying "back upstairs and change that dress." Different times. Well, those girls prove that you don't have to drop a lot of money to look fabulous.

Cute the way the pink and black couple match.

Ahhh to have such legs again! What am I talking about? My legs didn't look that good ever!! They are beautiful girls from head to toe and such pretty smiles! (esp your Alice!).

You know I've got all boys and we did the "match" the dress thing until they got their own tux's. The girls would sometimes nag a bit about trying to get them to match, but I had told the boys to think whether James Bond wore a different tux to match each Bond girl or if Frank Sinatra changed tux colors everytime Ginger Rogers changed dresses. THAT made an impression on both the boys and girls and they were happy with their classic tux ever after. The mental image of James Bond with a pink cumberbund was something that they could never get a grip on!!

Beautiful! I can't believe how grown up everyone looks. Hard to believe they are only in high school! Hope they had a great time :)

Wow! I don't remember the girls looking like that when I was in high school! Holy cow! All extremely beautiful. Glad they had such a great time. Those are memories they will have for life.

Those girls clean up pretty well! It's hard to imagine that earlier in the day Alice was riding horses and cleaning tack. She can go from breeches to prom ready in a few hours flat.

Alice was puzzled over her date's desire to go shoe shopping with her. He actually requested pink as a color theme so that he could wear bright pink and black. I told Alice that the male shopping gene had bypassed the men in our family and that she should enjoy this young man's interest since it is a rare occurrence. She just isn't used to this behavior!

It seems that many of the boys who want to go to the formal dances enjoy the dressing up part of it almost as much as the girls do and make an effort to match. And there are the iconoclastic exceptions as one can see in this prom pic from last spring.

Boy thats a great looking bunch of girls they look like models with those long legs...How old are they??? Ugh....is this what I have in my future with Margaret and Bridget!!!! By the way...what size are those shoes??? Luv'em!!!!

I've been looking at these pictures for 2 days now. They are simply stunningly beautiful! What are they...16 or 17 now?

About Alice's hair...are those wonderful curls natural? Gosh, I think her hair is beautiful. That young women has the world at her feet. Brains, good sense, & beauty. What a combination.

I'm glad they had a good time.

The girls are all Juniors and about 16 and a half. The boys are Seniors. The boys are catching up from last year! The shoes are a size 9.

Yeah, those legs! Alice is only 5-5-ish but most of her is legs.

Alice has a fun sense of style and will often mix things up in interesting ways. Betsey is SO right for Alice (rarely in the budget, though!).

Yes, Tricia, Alice's hair is naturally curly. She embraced it a couple of years ago when she realized it was really easy in the morning. She went through a year of using a flat iron but got over it.

Oh my, Eileen, she's sure growing up fast and beautiful. I just love those shoes, too.

Frugal formals, I love that too. Ashley's senior homecoming was themed "country", no formals at all. Of course I paid as much for the Justin boots with silver tipped toes as I would have for a formal dress, LOL.

I love the peppermint striped tie on the guy in the bottom picture. (grin)

Beautiful, beautiful girls and guys seem to be much more "fashion conscious" now than they were when I was that age, but maybe it was just the guys I knew. :-)

Alice is just stunning. She is such a natural beauty, because she looks great in her riding outfits, her "herding" gear, on the beach or wherever. Ohhh, Alice does Betsy 'good'.

Wow, what pictures! Everyone looks terrific. What memories they will have looking back on those pictures years and years from now.

The last picture (the one with the boys all by the pool), the one on the left in the white suit with his arm up is a dead ringer for Matt Damon!

Alice is certainly a lovely young woman! THey all look great and verrry grown up - and I love that the guys all coordinated with the girls! Tooo cute!

It sounds like Alice has her priorities straight, spending money on important things, and going frugal on formal wear for single events. She's so creative and smart, oh, and yes, beautiful too. Way to go, Mom.
