I'm not familiar with Provia, but we have ThermTru Classic Craft stained fiberglass doors with clear glass and side lights. The stained look is pretty convincing with the wood grain and I like the locking system. We also have the fire-rated doors in several places. No problems but we have only been in the house since June. If you are ordering doors, ORDER EARLY!! They take a while to come in.

coffeehaus - what type of "locking system" do you have? I didn't know Thermatru sold locksets - thought you always had to buy those separately.

We have a Thermatru FiberClassic door. I ordered it prefinished but builder didn't. I stained it myself, didn't come out too badly except I should have worn a hairnet b/c I got hair in the stain and you can't touch up the door after the stain has dried. the few little spots I nicked I had to dab stain on with a toothpick, artist's brush didn't even work.

I think Coffeehaus may have double doors, as do we. The Therma-Tru double set comes with pin locks for the second door. The pins have spring loaded latches that lock them in the extended position.

No, we have regular single entry doors with "multi-point" locking systems. Here's a photo of the front entry door, from the inside.

Thanks - I guess they've offered that since 2005, we built in 2007 but I never saw it on their website. You have sidelights too - how deep do the bolts go into the jambs? We have such short screws on the strikeplates, it's a joke, but I don't know how long a screw we can put in before entering the side of the sidelight and possibly damaging it.

Of course, DH isn't concerned with the lock. He says if someone wants in they'll just break a window on the porch.

Ajsmama...the locking bolts extend about 3/4 inch into the plate in the jam. Your DH is correct about someone breaking a window, but somehow I just feel more secure with a good lock on the door.
BTW, you did a great job with the stain on your door!

We used Minwax walnut with a polyurethane top coat because we had real black walnut cabinets and beams inside, along with red oak floors and Doug fir interior doors and windows...we like to mix it up a bit! Are you sure you're not asking this of ajsmama...she posted the detailed photos?
