Fun at Pam and Dale's house

My friends are both obedience instructors with top OB titles on all their dogs. They were boarding some dogs over the holidays and decided to take a family picture, even with the untrained ones. (Note: It loads faster if you unclick the "HD" at bottom right of loading bar.)

Enjoy!

Helene, I laughed all the way through that, through the lump in my throat because the Shelties reminded me so much of Cooper.

It looks like I should send Molly (Elery's rescue dog) there, she could use a bit of training too. Like how to not chew pajamas and to come back when called, no matter how many squirrels are thumbing their noses.

Glad you liked it; feel free to pass it on.

Yes, I thought of Cooper and Stetson and some other Shelties I have known. Did you see the puppy doing the scoots around the yard? And the Golden that ran between Dale's legs? Pam said it only took about 20 minutes total. Good thing that both of them are extremely laid-back people and love a good joke and even funny dogs.

What Makes A Garden Magic? (Like Pam & Michaels)

I agree that the magic in a garden comes from the gardener. I am reminded of the gardens of my grandmothers. My mother's mother, Grandma J, was a very organized gardener, She had borders of perennials and shrubs in immaculate condition, no weeds, not croweded. She loved to walk me through the beds and point out the different flowers and explain how they grew and what they needed to grow the best. She was a teacher, and I think her orderly beds represented her need for order after being with unruly kids all day. My father's mother (Grandma D) had a garden that was totally different. She just stuck plants wherever the mood struck her, weeded occasionally, and focused more on growing vegetables and crops. She was the wife of a farmer/rancher, and had a more relaxed style of flower gardening. Both gardens were magical to me as a young girl, and both had their charm. I remember Grandma J's bouquets of sweet peas on the windowsill, of her bringing flowers to any gathering, and I remember Grandma D's delicious vegetables, and her wild beautiful flowers. Those memories inspired me to make the garden I have today. My garden is for my own enjoyment, but I hope my children and grandchildren will sense the magic I am trying to plant there. Kathy

Digit, There many not be many gardeners from this forum that live near you, but I am jealous of the area where you live. We visit Hope Idaho, on the shores of Pend Oreille, every two years for a family reunion. My husband and I hope to buy land out there and settle down (someday) where the pace of life is a little slower. Last year we drove from Denver to Yellowstone, then on to Seattle and finally Hope Idaho before driving back home to Denver. It was only 40 hours in the car spread over 2 weeks. It is a neat drive from your neck of the woods to ours but it might be a bit much just for a plant swap. I grew up in the Seattle area but I vacationed in Walla Walla, the Tri-cities and Spokane often. Which area would you consider to be closest to your climate and growing conditions? I used to complain about the clay here in Colorado until I started digging up my parent's Seattle area yard and revamping their gardens. How do you add clay to soil? How do you remove the hundreds of river rocks? What do you do with soil that is essentially river silt? I actually thought about the logistics of shipping buckets of Colorado clay out there. Raised beds were the slightly more logical solution. On that note: Emagineer, Im sorry about the clay content of the soil in my plants from the swap. Im certain I was one of the culprits. ;) Digit, I havent seen common arrowleaf balsamroot sunflowers yet but I havent been looking for them. I hike and camp often and I will keep an eye out and let you know. -Azura

Thanks! Lou, sorry you took a wrong turn. I think there's still some pizza in the fridge. I was too tired to go out last night so we brought pizza home. I got home to find a basket of hanging flowers from son #2 and a beautiful flower arrangement from son #1. Nice. I got three birthday cards in the mail today, so I guess it is day #2 of my birthday. The BF is taking me out for dinner tonight. I don't know what to wear -- not my birthday suit, for sure!

She is so cute. Yes, you are true dog lover. I know you would wish away her digging if you could. She gets so mud logged. She is still young. Do you wash her outside with a hose when it is possible? I had to carry Buster (36 pounds) up the elevator and into the bathtub and used an 8 foot hose attachment. Whata mess.Very funny but sweet pictures. I understand about the spring rains. Mush. My dog, Buster, a cocker, would go down the rocks into the water when we walked through park in the morning after a bath. He stopped a lot of that when he was older and became a good listener as we walked side by side in peace w/o a leash. Best dog I ever had though bullheaded when I got him. Thanks for showing Georgy off. She is a treasure that makes everyone smile and ask about her.

Yes, I definitely noticed the golden that ran between his legs, and the Sheltie that was running laps. Elery was wondering when one of the Shelties was going to just give in and try to herd everyone, LOL.

My sides are splitting with laughter. The Goldens are really well behaved, to a point and I can understand where they might finally decide to escape! The Shelties, especially that one in the middle, are a riot. What a great video, I may have to share that one! Thanks.

I saw this posted to Facebook and laughed myself silly. I did wonder what the audio was like, going for "sit" to "sit dammit" I bet. Kind of like wrangling cats.

That Sheltie was one of the last litter of puppies, probably about 9 months old now, come back just for the holidays. He's the funniest little dog!
