Shax: I have googled and read a LOT of those, went to the windows7forum, and read extensively at microsoft.com's information on homegroups, networks, etc. Still can not get homegroups to work and both computers are running Windows 7 Home Premium edition. Mike: I have a home network set up using a Linksys router. Both computers and the printer are on that network. I can see it in the Network section of control panel on both computers. I know the network is there. Raven: the files on both computers have the same names. At least if I understand....the folder names are the same on both....files vs folders the same thing right? This is what is going on: Per the instructions from Microsoft, I set up a Homegroup on the desktop, I have a password for it. I go to the laptop to join that homegroup and when I open "network and internet" in the control panel and go to homegroup, there is not an option to join, it just indicates that it has joined a homegroup. It is like there are two separate homegroups setup and neither computer can join the other's homegroup. Each computer has a separate homegroup password and I don't know how to get them together. And as far as I can tell the files are not being shared I am missing something and don't know what it is. And I can't find the answer in the windows7forums or the extensive information at microsoft.com. Any ideas on how to fix this? Your patience is greatly appreciated. Mike, Thank you so much! In the book, The Missing Manual, it just said all I had to do was move the printer to the trash basket in the dock.It said there was no "uninstall" program for the MAC. But your instructions to hit the "-" did the trick! I am so grateful! But when I go to File in Numbers, there is no "page set up", and none under any of the other headings either. I just can't believe that something as elementary as switching between landscape and portrait is so obscure on a MAC. I have some simple spreadsheets that I am certain would print on one page in landscape. It was so easy to do on a PC! Again, thank you.

I work as a an electrician/teledata installer and can offer a few tips. Consider a central location to route all your cables in the entire house and use a residental media hub like the one Leviton sells it allows you to add various components based on your needs . Buy having all your cables and components in one location it allows for a convenient place to do all your switching, cross-connects and networking in one place, plus the ability to adjust for future technologies. You could add multiplexers for security, convert a future fiber optic internet connection into an Ethernet swich that coverts signal for distribution devices as needed and many others options. Cat 5e/6 cables offer a lot of flexibility, baluns are the peices that can be soldered or terminated on the ends of an cat5e/6 cable allowing it to adapt to hdmi and a wide array of other connection types. Other users who offered the advice on raceways are correct smerf tube is a good way to go be sure to get a pull string or something similar (I use 16 awg thhn electrical wire) installed before closing the walls. I am a new PC owner-receiving an Acer 5532 wireless laptop for Xmas. The cable co. hooked me up yesterday w/my bundled service. I'm a bit upset as the cable rep told me he'd help hook up my webcam & printer. This unit has the new 7 installed but no built in webcam. When he atempted to hook it into the system-a screen said it was not compatible with 7. Grrr. Ravencajun..thank you for the link above to get me started. I haven't run a 'puter since 1996-and that was just my company's program, so I'm CLUELESS how to navigate this laptop! I have been using an msn2 unit and (prior to that- a webtv unit) for the past 12 years- If there are any other links to a tutorial on how to use all of the functions..can anyone link me or will the above link be all I need? My biggest fear is not knowing how to transfer my folders' contents from msn unit to the new pc. My new email is set up-haven't tried it yet. I did move all photos stored in my photos file,into a 'share photos' folder- which one MSN webber said:"Your favorites are already stored on Sky Drive Windows Live. They'll be mirrored on Sky Drive Windows Live on your computer at your present users address." (my msn addy or the new addy?) ??? Yeah right..so how do I transfer them to the PC? I am such a ROOKIE!
