It's Snowing in HOUSTON! (pix)

We have been getting snow more than ever these past few years (global WARMING??). Today, it's really coming down. It's been in the 40s lately so the ground is pretty warm. But lo and behold, it's coming down hard enough to actually stick!

It's been snowing since around 830 this morning and didn't start sticking till a while ago so it took a while.

Here are some pix of my back yard and the back of my house.

    Holy Schmokes!

I've got my a/c on still. *thud*

Wow! Congratulations on your holiday precipitation! You must be getting in the Christmas spirit now. We finally just got some cold weather, and are expecting snow maybe by Sunday; next week for certain. I will say I'm not looking forward to it, but I'm enjoying your pictures.

Very pretty! We are not snow-bound here. But we have had lows in the teens. One night it was 15. I have yet to venture out to see what was killed. we have not had that low in about 15 years. I would love to grow the large callas like I saw in N. Cal. in 2002. I have a few, but not near as huge as those I saw. I have admired your front yard for years. My problem at this house is lots of spots of shade until late afternoon and then the sun fries so many things. My street curves at just the wrong angle and late sun shines down the middle of the street until my yard. Kathy

It is a chilly 41 degrees here in Houston, Texas right now! Our high is projected to be 53 degrees. It's been in the 50's for a week now, and that is unseasonably cool for us. Lots of clouds, too...we're missing the sunshine!

No thanks keep it all! If global warming means you get the snow and I get the sun then I'm off to idle the car in the driveway !

It has been amazing here. Quite warm for this time of year, no snow, lots of sun. Very pleasant......I do hope it snows Dec 24th and then melts the 26th!

LOL! I'm staying OFF the roads. We all get sent home early from work... remember, this is HOUSTON. We're not USED to all that white stuff and hardly know what to DO with it!

If all goes according to plan (and weather predictions) it'll be all just a faded memory by tomorrow. And that's a-ok with me! I'm a warm-weather girl!

    I am just laughing....
Both because you have more snow than we do and that you are so excited!! LOL!

That's just what my son said Linda! One of the reasons he left Houston for college in the northeast was that he wanted snow. Now all of his friends are giving him grief because we have snow and he doesn't!

I heard snow in Houston on the news this morning and thought of May and Sweeby! Wow, I just don't think of snow in Houston.

Like Shaun, I've still got the AC on. But it was a little chilly this morning, I went outside then came back in to put long pants on.

The weather here has been screwy to we usually get a dusting of snow before thanksgiving. This year itÂs been in the 60s and 70s in the day time and in the 30s and 40s at night. The good news is my propane bill has been nil we are only running the fireplace for about 6 hours in the evening. National weather is saying cold and rain next week but they have said that before and it misses up.

Maybe the idiots on Sacramento will through some money in the air and make it rain and snow. They keep spending and think it will work so nothing will surprise me. When Ca. goes under Texas is one of the stateÂs SIL is thinking of moving his business to so we could be neighbors. Enjoy the snow day and your evening out tonight.

No heat here in Lakeland right now, it is chilly and wet. At 4:53p.m. it is 58 degrees with rain. I will be seeing some snow on the 21st. I fly up to Norfolk to spend Christmas with my youngest son and his family. That is my Christmas gift from them,

No no no, Alexa!! We do not want that snow here. You keep down there in TX. However, we might actually get some tomorrow.

I only like snow when it's either light and pretty and doesn't interfere with driving or a big whomping storm where there is no doubt that you are staying in -- preferably with electricity.

    Enjoy the snow, y'all.

It is supposed to heading into mississippi later tonight.I am not sure if we will get any or not.

We are SUPPOSED to have snow in the next couple of hours. It's been cold and rainy here so our ground is nice and cold just waiting for that white stuff. We are only 2 1/2 hours from Houston and have been waiting for it all day.

Snowball fight in the a.m. at my house. Hot chocolate, blankets and a fire will be provided. I am so 'cited. Hopefully we will have enough snow to take pictures.

May and Sweeby, isn't it funny that the schools close down and Wally World was out of hot chocolate?? We really don't know how to act when we have this kind of weather.

It's lightly snowing...but it won't stick. The ground is to wet. No snowball fight in the morning.

Woo-hoo, keep it down there ladies!

Well it finished up about 5 pm here. Done with snow for this year... I HOPE!

Laughing here too! You have more than Chicago got and Lake Charles was even mentioned on our evening news for snow.

BUT...they are calling for 6 inches on Mon-Tues-Wed for us. I crawled to the back of the coat closet for the boots tonight. I hate snow boot, clunckers that they are.

Every year I have to laugh. Snow? Well, okay that technically is snow, but I am in disbelief that you all got sent home from work early for THAT?

Aw, seriously.....that little "precipitation" would not even make for slippery roads. It is pretty, tho, ain't it? LOL

Enjoy it while you can. C'mon up to Minnesota (or Iowa, or Illinois, or the Dakotas, or Michigan) if you want (us) to drive thru stuff that would scare the bejeebers outta ya! LOL

Aw...all in fun! Have fun in your winter wonderland!

    Linda

Wow, May... I'm jealous! Hope you enjoy it.

(Can you tell I've never seen snow except on TV or in a snow cone?)

I'm with Shaun and Cathy... A/C set to 72 during the day and it stays on a good part of the day... though tonight is chilly and rainy.

Yeah, for some reason, snow frequently goes south of Dallas, and heads for the Hill Country and points south, but usually not as far south as Houston. They said on the news last night that this is the second year in a row for Houston to get snow on that very day, and last year it set a record for the earliest snow in Houston - not that Houston gets snow all that often. I say have fun with it while you can.

    Linda,
The prediction (although it did not come true) was for the snow to fall, the ground to freeze, and ice to form on the roads. That's why we went home early.

And yes, it's only technically snow, as it really doesn't compare to the amount you get up north. But for here, it's SNOW. Meaning, we don't know how nor are we equipped to deal with it. Anyway, people were able to make snow men, I saw a few.

Kinda reminds me of hearing on the news that people have died of heat stroke in 80 degree weather. For us, 80 degrees is GORGEOUS. But in some areas of the earth, it's hotter than he!! - they simply aren't able to deal with it. Weather can be relative!

And... thanks for the invitation, but I'm a weather wimp. I like my HOT and HUMID weather any day. No thanks on the cold stuff.

Sally, yeah - we got snow last year at this time. Mainly started around 5 pm on my way home from work and snowed for a few hours. That's global warming for you. LOL Sharon about idling your car!!

As of this morning, the snow is still there. But the sun has risen and I expect it to be all gone in a couple of hours.

Gosh, May, I am sorry. After re-reading my post this morning I guess it sounds kind of like I was mocking you and your snow. I really didn't mean to sound that way.

    Linda

We had a little of the white stuff in the Dallas area a few days ago. I think it's beautiful. I wouldn't mind having a little more and letting it stay around just for a few days. *sigh*

    Lori :D

    Linda,
You didn't sound like that. Honestly, we're such wimps down here when it comes to snow, it's normal (and expected) for northerners to laugh at us. It's ok, I'm laughing too so you're not laughing AT me, you're laughing WITH me.

I just wanted to sort of explain WHY snow is a big deal down here. I did not mean to come off sounding annoyed or angry. Believe me, I in no way took your comments wrong. I'm probably the one who should say sorry since I obviously sounded like I was miffed.

Anyway, friend, our snow is pretty much gone, just little patches left here and there, but your snow is on its way and will last much longer. Enjoy it if you can!! LOL

Hope you enjoyed your snow day May! Driving in Houston or Dallas is bad enough during normal weather. No way in he!! I would want to attempt it with any amount of snow..LOL

Reminds of when we moved down here from MN back in 79. We had a tornadoe in December and the first time there was snow predicted, 2 -4 inches, they closed schools before it had even started snowing!!

Okay, here I am in my office on Saturday trying to do a bit of catch up. Yes, folks, it is snowing out here in Chester County. I was hoping it would all fall on Alexa's head since she likes it! lol

It is very pretty but driving home will not be fun. Aaaargh. Oh well, snow is to be expected around Philadelphia in December. If you have some, enjoy it and then I hope it melts fast. We are supposed to have warmer weather tomorrow, so this won't last.

Oh I am so glad, May! I had a few glasses of wine when I posted that, so I must have been in a "messin' with ya" kind of mood! LOL

    Linda

    Linda,
you can "mess" with me any ol' time. :)

Fortunately, it's pretty much gone with no sign at all of it ever having snowed. I'm getting ready for my night out at the chef's table. I have my camera and will post food porn pix asap. Just keep in mind, the drinking starts BEFORE we leave my house so I can't guarantee quality of the photog... wheeeeee!!!!!!

We had our first snow of the season today. It was 32 degrees at 6:45 when I got up, snow on the grass but none sticking on the streets. By 8 o'clock it was pouring, big fluffy flakes and we had about 2-3 inches on the deck railings by the time it stopped It was gone by early afternoon.... sure was pretty while it lasted.

    jude

Yeah, we did have a fleeting bit of snow the other day in Dallas. It was so short lived I had already forgotten about it. Usually, when there's any chance of snow around here the media gets so wound up about it they preempt any programming and we have to listen to them repeat themselves about the weather. I love the occasional snow, but I wish the media would just relax.

NW CT and we got about 3 inches of snow last night.

It just started here....the temperature is about 25....no wind....great big sparkly flakes falling! I just went out to get something out of the car...my garage does not have house access, even though it's attached...
"snow flakes that fall on my nose and eye lashes...."
Just beautiful....and if only we wouldn't get a wind....and if only the temp would stay about 25...it would be wonderful!

We have snow in Kalamzoo where I work, but not 25 miles south where I live. Sounds like we might be getting some nasty snow later in the week though.
May, I remember when we all congregated at Karen's in February. It was a warm 60 something and you were freezing to death. But I know if I visited you in Houston on an 80 degree day I would be whining about the heat. You are right that temperature is relative.
Karen, sorry you were not able to make a snowman. You need to come up here in February. As a matter of fact, ladies, I am thinking about setting up a "Peppi in Chicago" trip for Feb. Come play in our snow! (Hmmm, maybe I should check with Peppi first, LOL)

Yes, temperature IS relative. Anything over 80 and I'm crabby and uncomfortable, I hate it. Ugh. However, I can stand on the back of a truck and fill hay feeders in my sweatshirt and sneakers when it's below freezing and not flinch.

Here we got snow on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, yesterday. It's snowing now, more snow tomorrow and we're supposed to get a REAL storm on Wednesday. C'mon on up, Karen, if you'd have come this weekend you could have brought Maggie and rode in the horse drawn wagons to see Santa. Temperature for that ride? 21F. And snowing. The pictures were pretty, though, and I kind of wished I had worn my boots when we walked home. I didn't even think about it, I just put on my sneakers and away we went. Yup, my feet were cold, but the rest of me was fine.

May, you're right, we're used to snow and we're good at moving it and moving around in it. It takes feet, not inches of snow to close things here.

    Annie

Sounds like we're gonna get walloped tomorrow! 3-5 inches, and then more again on Wednesday.

I don't mind snow, and just in time for the holidays. It's the dreaded below zero temps that make me all "crabby and uncomfortable"!

I'm at work and can't see your pictures, May, but I can see the other ones. I remember some rare snows in Houston - usually it was around 55° and would melt on its way down, but I think I did once see some on the ground for a few minutes.

Our weather is in the 50's here - it got down to 50° this morning. No snow near my house, but I did get a view of snow from my front door. These mountains reach about 5500', I think, which is usually below the snow level, but I believe the snow fell at 2000' last night, which is extremely low for here and would include some of the suburbs. I'm still fairly close to the beach, and not very high (although I am no longer in a tsunami zone), and so it didn't get as cold at my house as it did downtown. Still, 50° is extremely cold, and I had to wear gloves. I wanted to wear earmuffs, but I have no idea where they are since I haven't worn them in years. I might have to buy new ones.

Don't do that Sherry! I just checked airfare to CHI in February--$142RT!!!

It's cold here as Lars reported, but at our house it was 34.5 degrees around 4 this morning. When we got up it was around 40 but I bet it didn't break 55 today at all. Driving to work the snow on the mountain tops was beautiful! Our rain gutters are being worked on today, good thing as the forecast is for more rain on Thurs-Sat.

Don't talk snow....we are in the middle of a huge storm....and the wind hasn't even started... It's snowing more than an inch an hour and I am hard pressed to keep a pee-pee path open for Chabby.
I can't imagine what I will wake up to....

Here is a link that might be useful: snow tonight

We got up to a balmy 6 degrees here today. It's currently 2 below zero. I went to dinner with my kids tonight and when the hostess asked "Table or booth?" we asked "Is the patio open?" She gave us this really blank stare and thought we were serious!

Our snow has moved on towards Linda. Hopefully, we won't be getting anymore for a while. We have already gotten more snow this season than we did all of last season. We are way ahead of average.

The temp in East Central MN is +14 as I type. But we have only gotten 1 inch of the 3-6" predicted. I am not complaining, mind you.

However, the wind has begun to howl, so...as Linda said, I can't imagine what I will wake up to.... I guess we'll see in the morning.

I finally have a job interview tomorrow, so I damn well better be able to shovel my way out my quarter mile driveway to get to it in time! LOL

    Good night, all....

    Linda

OK, LindaC, I admit it. THAT'S snow! But based on our reactions to the little bit we got, can you just IMAGINE how panicked we'd become of that much fell here? LOL

Actually when I was in jr. high school (a long long time ago) we got a ton of the stuff. It snowed in the night and we woke up to it early that morning. It snowed something like two inches -- doesn't sound like a lot, but it pretty much shut the city down. We had a couple of days off school but the snow was still on the ground on the third day when we returned. For snow to stay on the ground for 3+ days in Houston -- THAT'S something to panic about! LOL

Good luck to y'all. I'm going to stay put here in my happy warm clime.
