MicroSoft updates...help please

I saw the post about the up dates. As most of you know Im a real dummy when it comes to computers. When mine was installed the tech told me to just hit install updates when they come on. I always assumed you needed them. How do I know what I should intall or not and how do I do that??? What if I dont install any more,,,will my system still be ok?Sorry for my stupidity, but we akk have to learn

no you do not want to stop getting your windows updates they are very important to keep your pc secure and functioning properly.

What we were discussing is setting the option in automatic updates to only notify you that you have updates ready but not automatically install them. That way you can wait to see if anything shows up here or other forums saying that one of the updates is causing big problems for people. then you can hold off on that update till they get the bugs out.
SP3 is one of the service pack updates that has been put out through auto updates but it breaks many computers so some people are choosing not not to install it on their pc, there is even a blocking tool put out by microsoft to stop it from being sent to you.

I personally much prefer to have my settings at Notify me but do not install, then I have the option of deciding what to install and when to install. I normally install all updates once I know they are not causing any problems. Watching this forum and other security forums on the Tuesdays that the updates are sent out is a good way to find out if you should wait to get a specific update. If no one screams that it broke their pc then it is probably ok.

If you do not want to be bothered then leaving it set to do it all automatically behind the scenes is ok too. It is a personal choice.

To change how it updates you can look at the settings area by going to Start> control panel> automatic updates. There you will see you can change the options from automatic to Notify me first to do nothing etc.

Thank you! I set it so I can check first. Since I dont know beans about it I will ask on here first.

Hi Cheryl, You have a lovely kitchen and dining area! It's good to hear that you get plenty of use out of it, too. If I'm catching the pictures correctly, I think the two art pieces with blue would be one or the other on the wall and the grays with black stripe with be hung as a set. Let me know if I'm mis-interpreting. To me, the art piece on the left with blues would be interesting with your chandelier. You've got some other blues going on in the kitchen and the sitting area as well. It would be nice if it were bigger for the wall - maybe mounted on a bigger panel behind it? (Barn board or something like that?) Which art piece are you leaning towards? Hope some of that helps, Doug

First time asking for advice and not sure if this is the right way/place to post, so please redirect me if necessary. We're updating a lake cottage that has hardwood in most, and old vinyl in the entry/kitchen. My husband is strongly opposed to "trying" to match and install wood - concerns about it snow and sand + cost for a still doesn't match outcome. Thinking of LVP with a tile look rather than fake wood look? Does that seem right or should I consider a wood look in a different but coordinating wood tone?

Aside from the paint job I think some additional lights would really help. Add sconces around the garage and ground lights (solar?) near the right window and along the courtyard path. Paint the siding, vertical batten boards and brick the same color. You might consider just keeping the top trim around the windows and garage white. Keep the landscaping simple -- find some plants native to your area that have the size and shape you need with year-round greenery. Something like this. I have to agree with your husband re the backsplash- basketweave is strictly a floor tile to my eye. I would also take this opportunity to replace the hood- remove the slimline stainless hood and the cabinet above and replace with a curved wood or stainless hood that fills that whole space. As to color a soft grey green? Taupe? White to match your trim? You already have two counter materials so I think one cabinet color is best. I would also put in nicer crown moulding on the cabinets…

Raven when I go to updates, SP3 is always there and I can't find a way to hide it. I have used that option but, don't see it on that particular update.

no it does not show that option on sp3 on mine either I think since it is a service pack it does not give that option but you can use that blocker tool that MS put out to block it for several months.

I just get the "upgrade waiting" in the tray at the bottom when I start my computer up just click the X and it goes away, but do go up and see if there is anything other than "sp3" I need.
