Weekend in Bahston report....

So, went to Boston this past weekend...ate in various pubs, visited the cemetery where Sam Adams, Paul Revere, Benjamin Franklin's parents and Mother Goose are buried. Had fried Ipswich clams and Boston baked beans....drank Sam Adams ale... strolled in the Common - visited other sites on the Freedom Trail, shopped at Quincy Market...drank more Sam Adams ale...saw a Tuba Orchestra playing Christmas songs in the square...ate Boston clam chowdah...had Sam Adams ale and burgers at the original Cheers...walked along the uneven pavement of cobblestoned and brick paved streets(not easy after all those pints of ale). It was awesome being in the city that has the distinction of being the cradle of Liberty.

We have a lot to be thankful for...our freedom, our families and friends and the renewed optimism that our country can weather the storm...nothing like revisiting these historic places where we are reminded that a few people made a difference and the outcome was positive.

We love the Freedom Trail. My favorite spot is the Old North Church & Paul Revere's House. DH loves the Sam Adams. Did you climb to the top of the Bunker Hill Memorial? DH & DS did that 'once'...DH had to take the elevator at work for 2 weeks because his legs were wasted. We eat our way through the North End because we can't decide on just one Italian restaurant...so we nibble something from everywhere. Last time, we had some wonderful squid ink pasta. :)

Walking the Freedom Trail is a great Thanksgiving event...would be a good tradition. Glad you had a good time. The weather was great until Sunday.

I have never been to Boston but would love to go. If you like historic cities, come visit Philadelphia and drink some Yuenglings's. No shortage of food here either.

My temps here in Erie, PA have been 75 to low 80's. One day hit 90 but it rained. I had rain each of the first 6 days or so. I have not been able to water as much as I would have liked though. It gets 8 min per zone at 5 AM and I do my best to hit it in the afternoon by hand or with an oscilating sprinkler. A water restriction makes me use my homemade inground Hunter PGP sprinkler system under the mask of darkness. I am really happy I chose to use a leaf compost from my township as a topdressing (after core areation and seeding). In the few spots where I missed with it the are fewer seedlings. I think that it is really helping to keep the moisture in the soil. With this being my first summer of educated lawncare, I am happy to be making progress. Thanks again to all of you out there.

Hello All, I do n't want to be the last to celebrate a wonderful weekend, but my internet connection has been fussy. I can't write much because I have to run out and plant a couple of things I got on the Vineyard. I have some wonderful souvenirs, a few of which were bought at the expense of peace of mind about getting to the ferry. But the best souvenir is the experience of gracious hosts, a48 hours of garden imersion, an excellent dinner, getting to see new and old friends, and a newfound appreciation of potential for relationships through the web. Of all the things computers mean to me, these gardening relationships are the most prized. In fact, since the computer is just a tool, it is really amazing that something so alive was discovered and nurtured through computer relationships. So, thank you Katie and Joe, Nan, Mindy and Debra, the weather gods, and whatever/whoever had a hand in this special gift./Idabean Marie

Stopped on Front Street in Memphis yesterday and got an old wooden door with glass in it, a metal stand with cake pans, muffin tins, etc. attached to it (don't know WHAT I'll do with that, but it's "unique"! LOL), a small table with neat metal legs on it and two long wire baskets. All of the stuff was out by the curb for trash pickup. Went back to get two more doors without glass and a guy already had one of them loaded into his truck and was getting the other one. Darn! Still thinking about those doors! LOL Already had them visualized as being hinged together and sitting in the corner of a flea market booth as "hanging space" for little stuff to sell!

We are planning a trip to Boston sometime soon for my kids, they are history nuts and we, of course love to eat. Philadelphia was one of our favorite vacations -- all of the food and history --- the kids loved it.

Glad you got to see Tuba Christmas. My DH and kids play in it every year here in Colorado. It is a tradition in many cities across the country. If anyone has one in there town, it is a "not to be missed" event. Hundreds of tubas playing Christmas Carols. It's really beautiful. The first one was in 1974 in Rockefeller Plaza as a tribute to a tuba teacher that was born on Christmas Day. Here's the schedule for the events all over the country.

I love Boston too! Except for going through the tunnel during rush hour!

Pam, My late dh and I loved Philly. He would want to go just for the cheese steaks! Boston and Philly - you feel the history when walking the streets! And the food ain't bad either! Dlynn, the Tuba concert was fantastic. There were people lugging tubas through the Boston streets, which was quite a sight - kids and adults with small, large and gigantic tubas. Some were polished and shiny and some were tarnished and dented...but hey they made beautiful sound...
Tricia, did not make it to the North End - can you believe it?!! Was going to go on Sunday but it was cold, windy and raining - must go next time. -m

I've never been to Boston, but I'd love to go! I still remember "Listen my children, and you shall hear, of the midnight ride of Paul Revere", I had to recite it in school.

But....but.....Mother Goose is buried with Sam Adams? I thought Mother Goose lived forever. (sniff) Her demise had nothing to do with the Christmas Tuba Concert, did it? LOL
