Bad service aside for a moment, any idea how much replacement hinges cost and how much labor is involved to install them?

Do you want this problem fixed or do you just want to get rid of the unit altogether?

Why won't they honor the warranty? Was it a free standing model that you modified the door on?

I just bought a Leibheer and now I'm a bit concerned. I don't plan on attaching panels to the front.

I'm interested in this thread. I'd like to hear more from the OP (who joined us just yesterday) to determine if this is a real case that we can learn something from or just a passing troll-splat that we can safely ignore. It would be a real comfort to hear from some happy-with-their-service Liebherr owners too.

If panels were constructed according to factory specifications I don't understand how fault could fall on the cabinet maker. Have you contacted the company directly? Try contacting them through their website. There's a lot of feedback on this site showing customers pleased with Liebherr service - I don't really understand this one. I also don't agree with painting an entire product line and a manufacturer based on a single model or experience. I know that freestanding, built-in and fully integrated models all use different hinging systems.

Provided the customer has not exceeded the stated weight of the doors which is 25lbs each and the unit is still under warranty, I do not see any reason why Liebherr is trying to dodge this warranty claim as the poster implies.

I am happy to put my neck on the line right now and say that if the customers panels are as per spec (size, weight and installed correctly) laid down by Liebherr clearly in the install manual, I will have the refrigerator fixed within 2 weeks from the day the OP calls me, provided the OP does not make it difficult to make an appointment by the service company such as weekends only.

I love my Liebherr refrigerator. It keeps temperatures very constant, is well constructed, is quiet, and the interior is thoughtfully designed. I've had no problems with mine. Granted, I did not want decorative door panels attached. Prior to making my purchase I consulted a test kitchen I work with in my business. They had replaced their Sub-Zeros with Liebherr the previous year and much preferred Liebherr.

Happy with mine too. For the record, there was a problem, and we called the appliance store who sold it to us, who immediately got the Leibherr service people over to look at it, and it turned out a wire had come loose. They fixed it in a way that ensured it could never happen again, and naturally there was no charge to me.

Sorry the OP is having a bad experience, but I would say that was not typical at all.

Another happy Liebherr customer here as well. And I say that in spite of problems I've had with the icemaker and self-closing door feature on the new 36" FD product. On both matters (which have since been satisfactorily resolved), I dealt with Liebherr tech service directly who then dispatched a local, Liebherr certified technician. In my experience with Liebherr national service (i.e., Adco Service), I've consistently found them to be quite cordial, responsive and professional. BTW, my fridge is the fully integrated model with cabinetry panels. After nearly a year of daily use, I've had no problems with the hinges whatsoever.

Customer satisfaction with this brand has been great, there sounds like there is something more to this story than just the hinges

I am considering buying the 36" fd Liebherr. Didn't want to get into high-end fridge, but it has to fit into a very tight space, and I would rather avoid the sub zero price tag. The Liebherr LOOKS great. I'm hoping it is a wise choice. It's good to hear that some people love it.

Luv my Liebherr! We've had it for two years. I had one problem (self-inflicted), spoke to the knowledgeable customer service rep who cleared it right up. 'Would highly recommend to anyone!

The OP registered the same day as his/her first post. The OP has not returned. The OP entitled this thread with an unusually inflammatory subject line. The OP did not ask for advice or have any questions. The OP mentioned how another brand is vastly superior. These all add up to the checklist for how to spot a shill. Confirmed when the OP said, unasked, "No - I do not work for a competitor or appliance company either!" which leads me to believe that, indeed, s/he does.

Nor did the original poster react to my offer of help.

I also called Leibherr and asked them to check service records to find out who the OP was with a hinge problem, they told me "nothing found in the records".

We have the 30" counter depth with custom panels and it's been a nightmare! We work with a great dealer who has tried VERY hard to fix the issues but the Liebherr service department is unresponsive and we can't get parts (6 months and counting.) The long stabilizer screw underneath the unit broke when installed and the plastic (yes plastic) door guide things popped off (on the top of each door)so the doors don't close properly and easily can be left ajar without manually closing them tight. This leads to frosting up (if one happens to not be in the room to hear the temperature alarm), condensation and the central computer control running amuck. (The dealer service person had to take out the interior panels and defrost it -- manual defrosting wasn't sufficient.) Hopefully if we ever get the stabilizer part and door do-hickeys the doors will close properly. We also suspect the custom panel model has a design flaw and can't handle the weight of standard U.S. cabinet panels, even though the specs state up to 20 lbs., which hinders door closure. (And we had to pay extra for the custom panel model whereas Subzero knocks off a few hundred without the stainless doors.) If you want a tall, 30" model with bottom freezer there are not many options. Our friends have the Subzero 30" and are happy but I've heard Subzero is not the quality it use to be before going mass market. I'll post again if and when Liebherr comes through with the parts. It probably should just be replaced by the company for a fresh start.

I'm a regular Gardenwebber who adores my 30" counter-depth Liebherr. On the strength of forum recommendations I bought it from Trevor (*waves!*) at Eurostoves almost 2 years ago, and have had not one problem with it, from delivery to install to lovely quiet daily running.

It sounds as though there is perhaps a specific issue with the hinges for the panel-ready model? Sfberk, be sure to stop back with an update on the fix and/or outcome of your problem.

PS: I'm with Homepro01 -- if anyone wants to get rid of theirs, please contact me. I'd be over the moon to have a second Liebherr. :-)

Never heard from Owen. I ended up with a Gaggenau all freezer in the mean time. I really wanted the Liebherr 24" all freezer but the price was prohibitive.
