Internet connection issues

I use "my favorites" to visit websites and on a few this has been showing up.

This program cannot display the webpage

Most likely causes:

You are not connected to the Internet.

The website is encountering problems.

There might be a typing error in the address.

I cannot use Mozilla, The Weather Channel, my online banking or ebay. I have found that I can type in the URLs and ebay and the weather channel will come up even the online banking home page will show but when I log in the same page of "Navigation to the webpage was canceled." shows up. Has been going on about a week and a half now.

I use IE, AOL,occasionally Mozilla(But obviously not now) I'm on dial up. Is this a Bell South, AOL or some other kind of problem? Thanks!

So what happens when you try to use mozilla? Is it true you can not connect to any web site with Mozilla?

What version of IE is on the computer? IE7 0R 6.

and what operating system is on the computer, Vista or xp?

Is this an hp computer.

Usually the first step is to run a cleanning program such as ccleaner or ATF. Have you done any of that?

You of course tried a reboot of the computer..

Remember connection to online banking involves secure web sites (https) and sometimes problems can occur there.

Answer the questions please and we can go from there..

I would run ATF cleaner on all your browsers(select for each one you use).

Save it to your Desktop.

Run ATF Cleaner

* Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
* Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
* Click the Empty Selected button.
* Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
* Shutdown/restart the computer.

then run superantispyware to make sure you do not have malware interfering.

the blue is free, download, install, update it, run full scan, let it clean what it finds.

I don't see an issue with AVG on 7. I do see an issue with McAfee see link. If you like AVG and are use to it then for sure consider it. Download it to the desktop and install it. If you restored to factory settings like you said McAfee should not be active, a perfect time to uninstall it. It should uninstall using programs and features, we don't even need to worry about that yet because no McAfee files are running yet. Note The McAfee removal tool is not removing some new versions of McAfee. "Enterprise Software Detected" please contact McAfee. Lets avoid that or it's off to Revo un installer. When you get home connect Ethernet cable to the laptop. Then try going to www.google.com. Only go there just see if Google opens. Let us know if you get this far and we can give you a direct link for AVG so you may install that. Then while McAfee is not active we can uninstall it as I mentioned. If you want I can look at a hijack log for you after.

In some cases people use a power strip or some type of plug in strip for all their pc equipment, once the pc is shut down and then they want to shut down the rest they just hit that one button on the strip and turn off all the power to everything, that can be good in a storm when you need to shut down everything fast. However when powering back up it can be a problem if that one button is switched and everything tries to power up at the same time instead of the proper sequence, so if that is the case it is a good practice to unplug your router before turning on the power button on that strip, so that the modem can do it's thing and gain the settings then plug in the router and let it do it's thing, once those are done all the rest of the stuff pc and laptop etc can be turned on. I know I am guilt of having done that especially in a storm, then I forget and just turn the power button on and every time I do that at least one item usually my PDN or my husbands laptop will have a problem connecting. glad you got it working again just remember that for future reference. That password is so long and uses numbers and cases so it can be easily typed in wrong on that PDN keyboard.

It's the phone company, a human always answers the phone (when you get to the end of the automated directory tree that all companies have). I've always had excellent tech support response from ATT and its predecessor Pac Bell for terrestrial service. The few times I've needed a technician to come out, I don't think the phone-in call took more than a few minutes. They first run automated diagnostics and failing any useful info from that, they immediately tell you what time slots are open in their schedule. As with any tech support call on any matter, to save yourself time, you need to quickly assess whether the person on the call is the proverbial school nurse, or instead someone who has the knowledge to address the issue. BS is BS, no matter what the subject matter. Maybe the service isn't so hot in other parts of the country.

the 100Mbps is not telling you your internet speed connection it is simply telling you the ability of your router, most today are 10/100Mbps rated. This might help you understand that 10/100 devices mine also says 100 there likely everyone in here would have 100 there too. cox has multiple tiers of service you pay x amount of money for x amount of speed you would need to check your contract to know which tier you are paying for to know if you are getting the proper speed. I am also on cox and if you look way up in this old post you will see my speed test which is much much faster than yours so I would assume you have a lower tier of internet service with them. I do not have any other services with them so I have no bundle just strictly internet.

Thank you zep and ravencajun. I'm writing through a friend because now I can't log in to GW! Same old stupid thing of page had been cancelled, no connection blah blah.
What I did before writing in the first time was run disc clean, defragmentation, ad ware SE Personal and yes I had rebooted. Since then I have run the ATF cleaner, run the complete scan on superantispyware, unplugged every wire in the back of the tower, replugged.
Apprently IE is down also because I clicked on the e and got the same message of not being able to display this page. However this page did give me a place to click on diagnose. It said "Windows could not detect any wired or wireless network cards cards on your machine. If you are connecting to the Internet through a phone line using a dial up connection you will need to contact your ISP. Otherwise please make your your network card drivers are installed properly."
Why would they suddenly disappear? I don't think I deleted any programs.
Answers for zep:
Mozilla says page load error, Firefox can't find the server .The browser could not find the host server for the provided address.
IE sigh, I want to say I upgraded to 7 but don't know where I would find the info except on the now defunct IE page.
It is an elderly Dell computer, I have Windows XP.

If you connect to the web through dialup with AOL, maybe AOL's dialup adapter is corrupt and needs rebuilding. To do this, follow the instructions below:

To reinstall the AOL adapter:

1. Close the AOL software.
2. Right-click the AOL icon in your Windows system tray (at the bottom right-hand corner of your screen, next to your PC's clock).
3. Select System Information.
4. Click the Utilities tab.
5. Click Rebuild/Uninstall AOL Adapter or click the Start button beside Rebuild AOL Adapter.
6. When the confirmation appears, click OK.

When you restart the AOL software, the AOL adapter will be reinstalled automatically.

this is sounding like you have lost your connection to the internet. You may have to go into your network settings and click on repair. I would try calling Bell south and see if they can check your line and see if they see problems. Is your phone working ok?

it also could be that your modem is malfunctioning or dead. Can you try another pc or laptop connected to your dial up and see if it works?

SYSTEM RESTORE took care of it, I went back about a week before I started having trouble and glory hallelujah the Mama bear has been reunited with her cub! Poor Papa bear can stop cringing now LOL!
