Comments (28)Very welcoming, warm, and cozy! Kudos to your wife and you for the tile choices. I love the way you and/or your tiler chose to place the tiles. The floor tiles are fun, the way they form diamonds, instead of making random wavy directions. I also love the shower tiles in a vertical running bond pattern. Again, they were not randomly lain, the tiler gave some thought to direction of the flow of the grain. I especially like that you tiled to the ceiling. I admire the bits of shiny bling, especially the mirror. It is very pretty, balancing the masculine "rock" messages sent out by the dark tile on the floor right in front of the vanity. My DH and I will be turning our only full bath into a shower-only and it is just a bit bigger than your room. It is good to see that you, after giving up the master to her mom, can find a bit of luxury in your smaller guest bathroom!...See MoreFun project: Help completely change nature of this bathroom. PICS

Having a teeny tiny jack and jill bath with 2 daughters, I can say that there are several areas that need to be addressed if you want the bath to have some semblance of presentability. And avoid losing your mind. 1-kids are not tall. Do not put storage out of their reach. They won't use it. 2-kids are not married--they don't respect each other's property and share well. So Susie may want Crest, and Sally may want Colgate. Susie may want apple blossom shower gel, Sally may want peach blossom shower gel, etc. So frankly it's easier to have each child have their own set of everything. This also eliminates problems when Sally spends the night at Betsy's house and takes everything with her. 3-kids are not careful like adults. They will get nail polish on your nice tabletop. So very utilitarian surfaces are required. I also suggest using a silicone hot pad under hair straighteners so the countertop isn't singed. 4-Teenage kids are Pigs. Disgusting. And old enough to clean their own bathrooms. Make them do it. Plan a place in the bathroom to store Lysol wipes, glass cleaner, toilet cleaner and brush, and paper towels. I recommend having this chore due on trash night. So at least the trash should get emptied. And any time you hear "mom, can I have a friend spend the night?" the answer is, "of course, but you have to clean your bathroom first" So I think when designing your space, to take into account where and how these items are stored. The functional part is more important to get right the decor part. I found that the $4 paper storage boxes with lids that are sold at Hobby Lobby (for VHS tapes and photos...that size box) are great to use to organize in the bathroom. The lids keep things dust free, and daughters can store "unmentionables" there (so they don't steal all of yours!) and they stack up easily and can be labeled. If you have a shower curtain, there are some that have liners with about 20 pockets on them. These are good for organizing there. And as big of a trash can as you can fit. With a plastic bag liner....See MorePretty vanity mirror and light for contemporary bathroom?
Comments (23)I had my wiring for outlets, sconces, over head fan and ceiling fixtures all done before mirror, fixtures, vanity and cabinetry were added. I have a small oval tilting mirror that is only 24 wide over my vanity it was dirt cheap from lowes and they had rectangles too. Under 100 dollars. Your contractor should be able to drill with a new and properly sized drill bit to tile without issue and if it cracks the tile can be easily replaces. I know cause glass door guys broke a tile on their last hinge using a dull unchanged bit and my tiler fixed it is less than an hour. I can not attest to its quality but I love my cheap I mirrors function. This is similar to mine might be too short at 24 I think. https://www.atgstores.com/bathroom-mirrors/gatco-elevate-small-rectangle-mirror_12643290.html&ppc=2615&af=2615&cm_mmc=sce_google&s_kwcid=AL!4500!3!112410639507!!!g!189703215387!?gclid=CIyj4OfV0M4CFUMkhgodpYQGxw&ef_id=V2mUpwAABYlpJA92:20160820185548:s...See MoreComplete bathroom remodel
Comments (8)In terms of hiring a designer, what YOU bring to the initial meeting are your inspiration photos and NOT the actual design. Spend time downloading all the pictures that appeal to you. Don't think too hard about what is appealing but just save on your computer. Also spend time thinking about how you want the bathroom to function for you. When I met with my designer I showed her my inspiration photos - discussed what I was trying to achieve - discussed budget in terms of whether it was realistic of course - and then of course I had to decide whether to use her - which I did. And we entered into a contract which was somewhat of a step contract - eg. I hired her to draw up the plans to be submitted to the City for permits as well as for contractors so they could bid on the ACTUAL project. Separately I hired her to provide me with a "design - e.g the looks and feel. The cost of the design would be treated as an advance against her design services if I decided to move forward - but in any event I owned everything since I had paid for it. When she came back with her design she had really nailed what I liked about my inspirations and although there was some tweaking and collaboration and fine tuning especially in terms of picking specific finishes - like actual marble slab - faucets - etc., the designs were pretty much what I went forward with. A good designer is indispensable....See More- 11 years ago
