Transformer and Unicorn Terrorize Neighborhood

Lily has wanted to be Briar Rose for Halloween for months. I told her last week that princess don't poop in their panties so she couldn't be a princess. She thought for a moment then said "I be a unicorn". Seems unicorns can poop where ever they want.

Beau said that a transformer could look after Lily.

So there you have the logic of costume selection.

And a beautiful unicorn she is! And so big! Wasn't she a baby just the other day? We need to see Beau's face too.

I adore the Gulf Fritillary butterflies! My neighbors had 2 passion vines on the wood lattice topper on our shared wall. Both ornamental, no fruit. One was the classic purple flower and the other was a red flower that was more bell shaped and produced nectar that meant it was always full of ants. Well we always saw butterflies flitting about but never caterpillars. I think the ants ate them as soon as they hatched. Well the lattice was rotten and new neighbors moved in who sweetly asked if it was OK to remove it. We were more than happy since we wanted to replace wood with steel topper. But then I seriously missed the butterflies. I saw zero for a year. I missed them so much I planted a passion vine on the shared wall of the other neighbors. Just the purple flower that doesn’t have nectar so it won’t attract ants. Well for the first time in a year, I see not only butterflies but larva! I plan to cut it back to the “trunk“ each winter so it doesn’t get out of control this time. This vine is incredibly vigorous and could completely cover a carport if you let it. I don’t care about the flowers which are always there or the look of the vine, which is always green with chew holes, but my heart sings when every day I sit in the patio surrounded by the fluttering of beautiful amber butterflies. Usually 2 or 3 but sometimes 7 or 8 as I also provide nectar flowers for them. For me, the whole point of the vine is the butterflies.

I admit it...I have been a grinch in the past-well the last few years that we lived in Philadelphia. You have to keep in mind that where we lived it was a rough area of the city and so not too many "little" kids would come around. You would however, get a lot of older kids-you know the ones with attitudes and big mouths. No costumes to speak of-just maybe a sports themed tee shirt or jersey if that. What I thought was funny is that these older kids would come out of their homes to trick or treat, yet no one handed out candy from their homes. (sigh) It was unsafe to open your doors in my old neighborhood so I would turn out the lights, go upstairs and watch a movie with the kids. This year was very different! I have some halloween decor to put out-stuff from the old days. I even found some old costumes that I made for the kids. On Friday a few of Drews new friends pulled up and had with them 4 pumpkins which they sat out on the driveway and carved. I thought it was a fun thing to do since Drew hasn't lived there too long and when they left they left the carved pumpkins behind for us to keep-kinda a welcome to the area gift....so sweet and they did a great job carving too!! All in all we had about 50 kids-I had way more candy than I really needed but keep in mind it was raining off and on plus there was a baseball (world series) game on which I am sure was a distraction. I had a great time sitting out when I could and talking to the neighbors...next year I will have a better idea of volume and will get more decor to make the house look good!! Cheers! Susie

Ha, Jim! Looks like you captured a photo of the elusive Grouchodeer! Beneficial to the garden because they drop cigar ash around the beds but dangerous because they don't look where they're stepping while they wiggle their eyebrows milking the audience for laughs. Just wait till his brothers start showing up - hoo boy, that's A Day at the Races. Diane, I was thinking your badgers did sound might useful at chasing away the mice (I'm fine if the coyotes finish the mice off), but the "super at digging" part sounds suspiciously fraught with danger. I can imagine a badger uprooting an established rose because some fool gopher snuck in there for protection. I imagine you don't let small dogs or cats out into the garden at night either, for fear the same fate awaits them. You have quite the Wild Life out there. Cynthia

LOL Cathy! Makes complete sense to me! Unicorns do poop wherever they want (grin).

She is adorable and Beaux is getting so tall. I know there is a very handsome young man under that mask. But it seems he should have been a knight in shining armour! So sweet!

When did Lily get blond hair? It seems she had dark hair last year...Beautiful children!

Oh dear....even the promise of being a Magical Butterfly Fairy Princess didn't convince her to use that evil potty!
She's darling....but maybe Beau has grown a 3rd eye for all we know....let's see a picture of him not a transformer!

Linda, that picture is almost a year old, I remember because it was that day in Dec when we had to wear sweaters for a few hours.

Shaun, Lily is a princess and demands to be treated accordingly. Beau is indeed her knight.

Jessica--that is certainly something to think about! Along that line, Raymond just deleted all the bath pictures of Beau and Lily from his phone thinking something might come back to haunt him or the kids.
