you can drop the rainshower head down from the ceiling using 24 inch or less length pipe finished in your faucet color. Otherwise, I would lose the body sprays as there would be too much going on in that wall space for my taste and my experience is that body sprays are useless unless you have a ton of water pressure. Also to consider in that space is where you are going to put stuff. It looks like 2 of your walls are glass in the drawing so no storage there. The extra wall space might free up room for a niche. Bench can only hold a couple things before it looks cluttered. Let us know what you end up with.

If it will help, you can put the rainhead coming out of the ceiling. Just use a longer straight arm to bring the head down low. An 18" or 24" straight arm might get you where you want to be, both are readily available.

Sometimes the lengths in-between 18" and 24" can be hard to find, so I'll cut a longer arm down and re-thread the cut end.

One other thing, the 9' ceiling in the shower. A lot of the houses I build have 9' or 10' ceilings. I'll often drop the ceiling height in the shower itself to make it a less cavernous space.

Same with powder rooms. Nothing like being in a 3' by 7' powder room with a 10' ceiling, It's like standing in the bottom of an elevator shaft.

I may be the odd person ... but we installed a shower with body sprays about 8 years ago and rarely used it. I loved the idea, but most mornings I just didn't have the time to warrant turning them on. If you have doubts about whether you want them or not you have at least one person saying they look pretty but didn't get used often.

If you go for them, since you have 4 you'll want to be sure the plumber uses a pressure-balanced loop on the install. Or rather, you'll want him to have the instructions for those specific body spray heads to determine if/how they need a pressure balancing loop set up.

I don't think it will be too busy to have the handheld on the wall with the bench, then the rain head on the other solid wall with the body sprays on the same wall as the rain head. I would aim for some symmetry in the placement of the handles/outlets. Maybe have the hose for the handheld connect into the wall at the same height as the lowest body-jet. And have the volume control for the handheld at the same height as the volume control for the body sprays.

Thanks for the responses. I love the idea of dropping the shower ceiling, but unfortunately the window is already in place and we are on a tight budget so trying not to change things that will cost extra. Now I'm thinking of moving the bench to a corner seat and just having the rain shower centered with only 2 body sprays (one for neck and one for lower back) centered too. Then off-set the hand shower:

I'm guessing the winter climate in Washington isn't too cold? If it is "cold", careful putting niches on the exterior (window) wall. the depth of the niche will cause you to lose insulation depth, you can end up with very cold shampoo. That'll wake you up!

If it does have to go on the exterior wall, I'll slip a thickness (usually 2" thick) of rigid foam insulation between the back of the niche and the exterior sheathing. It's easy to do in 2x6 construction. Polyisocyanurate is R-6 per inch.

If necessary, I'll even pull the niche into the shower a bit to get the needed depth behind the niche.

I'm in New England, so my concerns may not apply due to your more moderate climate.

You can take a look at what we did in our shower. I posted pics last June under "pics of my new bathrooms" and two of the pics show our shower. The shower is about your size, but for the structural column on the left which juts into the space. We have a rain head coming out of the ceiling (at close to 9 feet height with just a 4" pipe--it is great for both me who is short and my tall husband). We have the handshower on the same wall closest to the bench. We have three body sprays, which we use all the time. We were careful to keep the height lines consistent. One thing that we did was to put the sprays closer to the shower opening. Because the sprays are 26 degrees adjustable, they spray into the shower rather than straight. So we get no overspray even with the sprays and without a door. HTH
