Where they are located may tell you lots. When you do the search for *.png, you have the details view option to see where they are - what directory/folder they are in. You can delete the whole folder(s), which is faster and less draining on system resources than mass deleting lots of files. As already mentioned, some might be associated with other programs so be careful. Because you don't recognize the images does not mean you don't want to keep them. I find 453 png files doing a search. While most are associated with Jasc (including plugins) or other image editing and video programs, a few are part of my Service Pack files, some are from my DVD burning software, and many are in the System32 directory (associated with DirectX, which you want on your computer). I wouldn't touch any of them. Because you don't want Jasc or Corel on your computer, only remove the ones associated with the programs you don't want or already deleted. I doubt they mysteriously appeared as in you or someone else downloaded png files by accident. You did it when installing programs and downloading programs and other necessities. Also, it might ease your mind a little to know png files are not normally very big. PNG format was designed to be able to display millions of colors (almost limitless) while being better compressed than JPG format, which is already considered to be well compressed with no loss of color. I realize 39,000 is a lot, but most of mine are only 1kb. If we assumed all of yours are only 1kb, that only amounts to just about 40mg, which is very little compared to 120gig hard drive. Adding the unlikelihood they are all just 1kb, I still doubt they collectively amount to 100mg, which is still very little consumed space.

It worked for me to do control print, then control V into a word document. A little awkward in terms of getting all the details to show - but certainly doable. Mikie - I tried the dragging and dropping. Now that was the kind of solution I wanted. It saves it in a simple list - without all this blank space from the screen shot. What an incredibly helpful tip. The first time I tried saving it I chose as text - but that was a mess. The second time I chose as a web page - is that the correct way to do it? And will it stay on my computer? This brings up a problem I've had but didn't think about asking before. I have often saved webpages - esp. from this forum and the cooking forum. But when I go back to open them up, they present a whole list of different files - like a logo from the page, etc. It's no longer complete and recreatable. Is that because I saved it in the wrong format? I had just recently deleted a couple of these when I thought there was no resurrecting the information. Glad I didn't erase more than a few. So if I want to, say, save this thread, I'd hit file, then save as, and choose web page complete? web page html? text files? or all files? Looking at the mess of files from things I saved in the past, I suspect I chose all files - but I honestly don't recall making a selection (and certainly I didn't understand the selection). This is such a useful way for me to save some information. NOOOOO, I still can't do it! UGH, so frustrating! However, I think I know the problem now, but don't know how to fix this. A lot of my photos are word docs (docx). I know crazy! But, when I see a picture on some website that I like for my house...which is most of my pictures...I just copy & paste on a word doc! It's easy & works for me. Until I want to upload it here! So, I'm dragging the picture on my desktop to iphoto, like a few of you have said to do. But, I get a message saying my picture is an unrecognized format. Which is probably why I can't upload from "Photo" below here, as well. I vaguely remember at one time a few yrs ago, I did convert my word doc pictures into a jpeg format. But, for the life of me, I cannot remember how I did that. Rococogurl, you mention jpeg....would you happen to know how I can convert the word docs to jpeg? "It's erratic, and it's more likely to work if you upload FIRST and then write about the picture. For me, it's not at all erratic. I've tried all sorts of permutations and nothing works. And, before now, I NEVER had a problem. I sent an email to HOUZZ and they asked me to clear my history, cache and cookies. I use CCleaner and will periodically clear all that, usually leaving cookies like Houzz and yahoo for example. So, this time when I used CCleaner, I made a point of asking that the Houzz and Gardenweb cookies be deleted. (Houzz does not make it easy to log back in, but I finally figured that out.) They asked my browser. Google Chrome. Nothing changed. Same problem. What's somewhat interesting is that I can upload to my "Ideabook" at Houzz, then click the "Houzz Photo" link and will be offered the chance to select from pictures in my "Ideabook". I've taken pictures in the winter through my bedroom window as the birds come for the food scraps I throw out for them. I was big into peas at the time. Hay
