Yes, browser window. One user is is about 99+% Firefox, the other user only uses IE. For now I only want to examine the look and feel of the drop-down with the mouse-over so owbist's note gives me a tool to play with. It may turn out I don't like it.

You do not "capture" DV. Yes, you heard me, you DO NOT capture DV. You TRANSFER the files. In the world of video, the term "capture" refers to the re-acquisition of motion images in a format that is different from the analog source format. With DV, re-acquisition does not occur. The information is merely transfer from point A to point B, using special wires and software. You do not "capture" from a DV camera any more than you "capture" from a floppy disk. The person that first called this process "capturing" should be flogged for all the confusion this misused word has caused." In order to turn your bitmap into an embroidery file...you have to bring the bitmap into the digitizing program and "create" the file. That entails placing the stitches super imposed over the picture...in other words creating all the stitches....thats what digitizing does....and its not automatic (well some of the programs say they do, with a simple line drawing, but I've never been too impressed) Digitizing takes a lot of work and a pretty steep learning curve...but fun hth jrathke@hotmail.com if you have any other questions

Thanks, sheeisback. Yes, I'll be the one doing the editing. DD has her hands full, as does DSIL, tending to babies. DD called a professional photographer today, so the heat is off trying to get good newborn pictures for the announcements. I have a little breathing room to look at various editing programs. I've begun to understand the concept of layers. I played with Pixlr Editor for a while yesterday. There aren't a lot of tutorials online for Pixlr. Some of the best I found were for grammar school children (hmmm...I think that says it all). Haven't tried Gimp yet.
