Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that you've lost your Dixie Dog. It's OK to cry, I cried for weeks over the WonderWeiner and still do sometimes.

special pets just work their way into our hearts and our lives and take a piece of us with them when they leave. She'll be waiting for you, I'm sure.

I'm so sorry ! I do know how hard this is...My Captain dog was 17 years old when he went. Go ahead and cry buckets for as long as it takes. I believe as Annie does. Dixie will be waiting for you.

After Captain died, for years, I kept thinking I was forgetting something every time I left the house. It was that little thing of letting him out for his walk before I left the house. It will be 5 years this Christmas and I still miss him.

I'll be sad along with you. I've had to do the same thing though it's been a while. They grab our hearts and don't let go. Cry all you need.

That is really sad. Do you have a picture of Dixie for us?

I'm so sorry for the loss of your dog. I am a dog lover too and have had to be in your shoes. It's not easy and it takes time to heal. Your pain and loss are real so let it out.

Oh Dixie -- I am so sorry, and I know that when it is unexpected it can feel even worse. Treat yourself kindly and let yourself cry -- it will just take time to wash away some of the pain and leave the sweet memories of her...

Oh my I am so very sorry.
We just lost our Wendy a few weeks ago and it still very raw for us. I will just look at her spot next to the computer and sigh.

She too got very sick all at once so we were blindsided to say the least, then out of no where we lost our Spice Cat...she just stopped eating. She died in my arms.

These pets cannot be replaced but at least now Frank is "talking" about maybe getting a rescue pup once we move.

Oh, that is very sad news - I'm sorry about Dixie. My Cloudy dog is 14-1/2 and I am dreading that. Even though we know it's inevitable, it's still always so painful.

I'm also sorry to hear you lost Dixie. Our pets are part of the family.

Oh how sad you must be feeling to lose your dear Dixie dog. I know the emptiness that comes with losing a lovely pet. We lost our little Goldie many years ago but I still remember how she followed me around the garden and was my daily companion.

The painful empty space does fill over with time and you're left with sweet memories.

There is a book called 'Forever Ours' written by a forensic psycholgist who catalogued after death experiences. One of the most stirring stories had a man who died.....watched it all happening from above and then seen the beautiful lights etc...and then his mom and dad, dear aunt and dog were there to greet him! He said it was the most amazing reunion! He got yanked back into this painful world and had tears steaming down his face as he recounted his story. I'll never forget that story and it reinforces the fact that our beloved pets will be there in Heaven!

I can not thank you all enough for the kind thoughts and words. I have read ever single one of them and they mean the world to me. We both know that time will heal our pain but right now, it is just difficult.

Our dog Dixie was a HUGE part of our family. She did everything with us - hiking, camping, swimming, kayaking, the beach, sleeping beside us - you name it, she was there. She brought total joy, unconditional friendship and love to us each and every day. We gladly gave it back in return. We loved her very much and still do. There will never be another Dixie.

My friend sent me this poem this morning:

Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

So so sorry to hear this. We miss our little buddies so much. I cried buckets when I had to put my old cat to sleep. She was my constant companion.

I know how sad this is for your and your family. I am shedding tears as I type this as it brings back the sorrow of loosing our Chow 15 years ago.

I hope Dixie meets up with our precious Chowder Mae. She was the most wonderful dog. My constant wish is that will be as good of a person as she thought I was.

I'm really sorry. Losing our pets is so hard, especially when it's sudden.

I've been looking at lots of pictures of her and I couldn't resist letting you all see just one of her when she was a puppy. In our eyes, she always stayed a puppy until the end.

She is so precious! What an angel face.

Cry all you need to for it does hurt like h*ll to lose a best freind and furkid. They are family and no one can tell us differantly.

Dixie was a beautiful girl and she had the best family to be part of. No, there will never be another Dixie, but I hope you find a new freind some day, when you are all ready to open your big hearts again.

Sorry for your loss Dixiedog, I know how hard it can be. I had to make that decision twice in the past couple years for our pair of golden retrievers. Neither of my parents could make the call and both looked to me to make it for both of the dogs I'd grown up with. It was a heartbreaking experience and my heart goes out to you now.

Ah Dixie I'm so sorry for your loss. I still tear up when i think of my sweetie Holly, a yellow lab that was my best friend for 15 years. Losing her was heartbreaking so I really understand.

Lovely that you have such great memories , think of her over the Rainbow Bridge with so many of our CF fur babies, they are having a ball!

My Otis got sick suddenly and died the same night at home. Losing a beloved pet is sooo hard, but I take comfort in the fact they did not suffer long.

That picture of Dixie as a puppy is very cute, she's a darling, but I have to say that there's a special kind of "cuteness" with old dogs. I think they're the cutest of all. That picture of Dixie as a senior citizen shows the years of love and friendship she shared with you and the rest of the family. Nothing better than that.
