Another Q for Ravencajun

Some months ago I recall a thread about netbooks where I believe you recommended the MSI Wind. Now I read you have purchased the Acer 11" model Aspire. I haven't purchased yet and am wondering why you chose the Acer over the MSI? Just curious. My eyes glaze over when I read computer specs, most of it is Greek to me. Thanks

you are absolutely correct, I did want the MSI wind and it is an excellent netbook, I ended up getting the acer because I found it for a very good price and after reading many reviews felt it was also a good choice. I had to make a fairly quick decision and purchase since I needed to have it for my house search and use it while on the road, I found the pink acer that I bought on walmart.com the price was right and it would accomplish what I was needing at that time. I have not regretted my purchase. I am using it right now in fact sitting in my recliner. Since I have not tried any other brand all I can offer is my personal experience with mine. I have the 3 hr battery which has not been a problem for me because I usually have it plugged in to an outlet, and I got a cigarette lighter adapter to use in the car. I do let it run on battery and discharge on occasion to keep the battery fresh. My only complaints so far with mine is the touch pad which I can not manage so I have a usb mini wireless mouse that I use, I have loss of feeling in my right hand which complicates my using a touchpad of any type. The other complaint which I know is a common complaint on most netbooks is the volume of the speaker, it is minimal at best. In a noisy room I can not hear it so carrying a little set of earbuds is a good idea, of course it can be hooked up to an external speaker or headset also.

My personal specs I was looking for were that it have the Intel Atom processor, plenty of memory, a nice size hard drive, and have good user reviews. MSI wind would have been my first choice the Acer second but price had to come into play and being able to get a better price on the Acer made the decision for me.

Having an AMD processor that would have been my number one spec since I am a huge AMD fan. I know that AMD is now getting into the netbook realm but I have not checked into it and I know the price point would have been more than what I was wanting to pay because I really did not know how much I would be using my netbook. Now that AMD has put out netbooks with an athalon procesor in them I would most definitely be looking at those. Here is the info on the one from Acer/Gateway.

most of the netbooks are fairly similar, the thing to look at is what operating system it uses and what one do you want to use> the type of processor> the type of hard drive, some use solid state hard drives so will have much less capacity than the regular type hard drives> memory> connectivity
some come with various extras like antivirus trials or office trials, none of that was important to me since I wiped that out and put on AVAST and open office.
Just determine the amount you want to spend and if it will do what you want it to do, in how you will be using it.

I have to say I am surprised that I am using mine as much as I am. Over all have been happy with my choice.

To me the 5000K reads very blue so to me that's what is influencing the light. It may actually be the most accurate for your application if you need to read fabric colors, because the 2700K is very warm--yellowish (this is more for residential applications I think). You might want to use a bright white like Decorator White as a backdrop and the space will read cold empty, but filled with fabrics it should be okay I would think.

Yet another q about wedding gifts

There's a fairly good chance she doesn't even know what he received....my brother had no interest in my wedding gifts and vice versa. He was still in college when I married, and my mom even had the whole gift display up in the dining room (a southern thing, I think, the planner rents tables and pretty tablecloths to ring the room in your parent's house, and you set up all the pretties on the tables or the risers. When people visit, they can view the goods, lol. My mom's friends hosted my bridesmaid luncheon at my parent's house, and they adored seeing who sent what!) I don't think he set foot in that room the whole time it was set up! Plus, needless to say, of course you don't display checks. :) Anyway, just saying that probably the only people who might notice there was a discrepancy would be the parents. If you are close you could explain your rationale, Otherwise, they'll either think you forgot how much you gave brother, or you've become "cheap" (lol, not!) or since the whole family isn't attending, you've pared your gift down accordingly, lol. And you, indeed, are probably thought of very fondly by your nephew. If my auntie slipped me a thou for my wedding..,I'd be the greatest niece ever! ;)

Another Q re: fruit storage

Previous discussions here and on a gardening forum, for fruit and vegetable storage, most have decided that what works for some does not work for others. Depends on your climate....kitchen, pantry, garage. A gift box of citrus is in my garage near the interior door. (45ºF) I bring up a few at a time and into the fridge. The few apples, pears, and plums in the fridge on a folded Terry cloth towel single layer. Climacteric fruits are single layer on the counter so I can watch the ripening. My kitchen pantry is against an exterior wall and not heated, door closed. 55º-60º.----ish. OK for garlic, onions, potatoes. If a larger quantity is purchased, I keep in the garage. A mesh shoe caddy would work for those in the pantry. I just use shelf baskets. If I had a large family in and out and about, I might put out some fresh fruit daily like I do for house guests on the breakfast table...what needs consuming and what is ripe and ready. Climacteric stone fruits are best letting ripen single layer and checking. Non-climacteric like your citrus, are sturdy enough to stack, but do like cooler temps. If your fridge is very dry, best in your crisper drawer separate from other veg. Mine has dividers. Trial and error how individual fridges will extend your fruit/veg life. I picked up some mesh bags from the produce section of my grocery. They do not work at all for me. Herbs in a glass jar with water, loose bag overtop, does not work for me. Much better is rolling in a damp towel and into a loose bag fridged. If short on fridge space, fit what you can, but store the remainder in the coldest place in your home. If you need to use an upper shelf, I need to bag mine for extended periods of time but fine for a week or so.
