Another pruning Q (Wisteria)

Hi all

Having discovered how easily my Honeysuckle is
for pruning & keeping under control, I'm now looking to get similar
info on my new little Wisteria. I stupidly didn't really research this
as well as I thought before getting it, as my view is to attempt to
create a bonsai with it, but I think that's now unlikely.

I'm
discovering just how FAST the darned thing grows plus how it seems to
put a leader up way beyond any decent growth, which really just wants to
twine itself round things & I've run out of anything low down to
let it do so with. I'm fairly disabled in different directions
(mobility/hand arthritis etc) so would have no hope of pruning it beyond
4-5 ft. I believe it's possible to train it into a tree (?) or
otherwise to keep it low growing - anyone know how to do that.

Basically
tho I'm just wondering whether to let it have its head now & prune
later in the autumn/winter, or chop the top of the leader off & keep
it low from the outset? You can see it swinging about in mid air at
the minute looking for a "victim" to clamp onto & I'm trying to make
sure it doesn't find the drainpipe behind!! :) I've also made the
mistake of potting it up into a rather smallish container (12 inch
diameter I think) and one which tapers badly towards the bottom so it'll
no doubt need repotting too which was something I really didn't want to
have to do too often. Beginning to think I maybe chose the wrong
plant with this one!!

Any suggestions welcome.
