new issue now with Windows 7

I did a system restore because after using the Ccleaner I lost all of my icons on the right side of the task bar. I now have my speaker, clock, date, etc etc back.

But....

Now when I get an e-mail that has an image included I can't see the image.

One e-mail had a link to a site and then nothing opens. I know it was an image that should have opened as my friend said it was.

This is what I see. Just that little icon in the top left of the page.

I must be missing a software that would open these. Would it be adobe? As Adobe Reader has now changed to XI

And this is why there's no reason or need to arbitrarily run a registry cleaner. They're often too aggressive and break things.

Love those views and my gosh you must change those windows for the sake of the views!!! New double pane windows are today 1000 times better that what you have in place. Our house, in the SF Bay Area facing SW, had EXACTLY the same problems you have now. We had Aluminum double pane "builder grade" and in the summer, the glare was blinding and they transmitted heat into the house. In the winter, it was cold and produced condensation like crazy on high humidity days. We are on a hillside with spectacular valley views but the drapes were always drawn. What a waste. After switching to new windows 4 years ago, the change is spectacular, literally. New double pane now offers a spectrrally selective coating known as Low-E. There is Low-E II, 3 and up to 4 now. They eliminate glare, keep out UV rays, cut down heat transmission. Better windows also offer Argon gas between the pane to further reduce heat transmission into and out of the house. Low-E II (3 or 4) plus Argon gas keeps you warm in the winter and cool in the summer and it gives you spectacular views out your windows. You may find that interior window treatment is now optional and can simply rely on the exterior solar shades to cut out the setting sun's direct rays into the house. There are fiberglass windows, fiberglass exterior and wood (paint or stain) interior windows, aluminum clad exterior and wood interior windows and vinyl windows. We have had very good experience buying Marvin, Andersen and Milgard. There are others (Pella, Kolbe-Kolbe, Loewen, etc) but I am only familiar with these three and they have all worked well for our homes over many years. You will not regret one bit swithing to new low-E II and argon filled double pane. Your husband will be shocked by the spectacular glare-less views! Geat ready to Enjoy!

I thought I was the only one who muddled through all of my decorating & remodeling in this old house & Ten Years after I bought it I finally realized that I was trying to impose my will on something much older, stronger & (probably) wiser than I! ;-D It took me halfway through the kitchen remodel to figure that out. OK, I know I'm not the only one who did that, but I sure felt humbled when I finally realized it! Thankfully I hadn't destroyed any bones in the process, but I did put in a bath in the basement that has nothing whatsoever to do with the rest of the house bones-wise - in a space that was formerly just a dirt floor, so my only limitation was space....& money...& a few crooked house bones lol. And I love that bathroom! It's the master bath, & the master BR will be the next room to work on after this office & stairway are done. All of which leads me to an "aha!" moment I had today. The downstairs bath is my "zen" bath. I love that simple sort of space (with fun splashes of color added) & I keep wanting a zen-like, sanctuary space in my house, & I keep on trying to add elements of that each time I redo a room, & it keeps not working because, well, because it just doesn't work in this old house. It WILL work in the downstairs master BR, at least to some degree. So I can quit trying to figure out how to do that in this office, & Just. Have. Fun. So this room is probably going to have color - lots of it. I'm still not sure about the wall color - I'm doing a board with samples tonight, w/ golds/yellows & blue/greens, but I'm finally beginning to get excited about the possibilities!

loralee- Problems like you were having typically result from installing programs that you find on the Internet...stuff like that coupon printer, which often typically come with all kinds of pop ups and malware.. Unless you are downloading known programs like Adobe, Firefox, Flashplayer, etc., from reliable sources, you're asking for trouble. And when you try to uninstall these programs they either don't uninstall easily or they uninstall and leave behind things that continue to mess up your computer. There are even programs that you pay for that seem to be legitimate antivirus programs that actually take control of your computer and can make a huge mess of things, and require expert help to get rid of. After you get your computer fixed, please do not download and install any new programs you happen to find online - free or otherwise -or anything that's supposed to fix your computer or find malware because these things often are malware themselves. And if there's something you find that seems legitimate and you really think you have to have it, check here first to make sure that it's not going to mess up your computer again.

Yep, I have restarted it.

What sort of software opens the images? I have irfan view which opens some I am not sure what the other ones are.

Irfan view is working for other graphics.

Some of the pictures in the e-mails will open but really slowly. Is there a way to find out what is opening the ones that do open?

How do you read email ? is it online email like at http://mail.yahoo.com ??

Mikey, when she did a system restore would it roll back to a prior update on say, Adobe flash?

Lora ~ my sister sent some more pics. Wouldn't open!!! Turned out they were in a Canon raw format. I had to download Irfanview's plugins. If your email shows a filename check the extension.

Isn't Windows 7 similar to Windows 8 in that you need to right click on either the blank square or on a line that appears across the top of the screen then click 'Download images' in the pop up menu?

There is a new flash player out in past day or two. I updated it in firefox.. windows 8 auto updates it with the 2nd Tuesday normal schedule .. microsoft updates flash in IE11/win8.

So it seems like flash updates the day or so before the Microsoft update tues is the norm now. I disable adobe autoupdates in taskScheduler - its default is check once per hour. Too dang much checking for something that never seems to update when a new flash player is out.

As @mikie asked it's important to know what email software you're using, and if it's browser-based email, what browser you're using. Are you saying the images are displaying in your email program / browser, not in some other program like Irfan view?

Do you have any idea what format the images are in?

I haven't run CCleaner yet on my windows 7, but have noticed that when I get my email, I usually have to click on the tiny bar on the top of the item to see pictures. But when you ran the program, did you check or uncheck the programs you wanted cleaned? That is important. I am still learning 7 and do have a good book from Barnes and Noble called Step by Step--Windows 7 by Preppernau and Cox from Microsoft. Comes with a CD --haven't used it yet.I have used the book several times and it did help me.

I am using Firefox. So far today things seem to be running ok.

The pictures were not a camera photos but images of something found on a website by my friend. Usually she or I will find a cute idea to craft and will send a picture of it. No problem in the years or days past everything always opens.

Even when my friend had sent me a link to a site all I got was that blank page. Maybe firefox caught up with the new Adobe reader.

Iris I don't get anything like this in my e-mails. The images just always open.

On my list is to buy a pictorial Windows 7 book. I could really use it. I thought I may do ok with this new widows but there are some things that is different or sofware like my music software that will not work as it was outdated and no longer being made. Still have to work this issue out.
