Personally I would not change Adobe Reader 5, too much bloatware for my liking.

I would simply update Firefox to 2.0.0.16

I would install Flash Player then go to Add/Remove programs and remove those other 2.

you should definitely update, be sure when you do update pay very close attention because some of those are now trying to add toolbars and itunes and various stuff that you do not want so if you see where it has something extra checked you want to uncheck that stuff. All you want is the update itself.
Those should actually take care of removing their older versions, Java is the one that is bad about not removing it's older versions.
So just go ahead and hit their update button and it should do what you need.
The firefox definitely yes those were security updates. Go to tools, options, advanced tab, update tab and search for firefox updates.

Okay, I haven't done anything yet except look in Add/Remove.
As far as Adobe Flash Player goes I only see these two things:
Adobe Flash Player ActiveX listed and Adobe Shockwave Player listed. Are these the two items that the scan is referring to? Thanks.

Hi. Well my answering this is the blind leading the blind - but just in case I'm right...

I just ran Secunia on Sunday after Raven's recommendation here. I found that when I updated Adobe Flash Player, I think it automatically replaced both activeX and shockwave. When Secunia gives you results, I think it tells you what to remove and what it recommends instead. I think that the newer flashplayer is the recommended update/replacement for several older separate components. So if you have those results, delete whichever ones they had in red. But you could update the newer one first - then rerun secunia and see if it mentions that activex or shockwave are there and need updating.

I don't think you have to do anything in Add/Remove.
If you do the Flash Player update, it will only show one Adobe Flash Player ActiveX in the control panel.

If you get the latest version of Adobe Shockwave Player 11.0.0.465 which came out yesterday, it'll change Adobe Shockwave Player to read Adobe Shockwave Player 11 in the Add/Remove.

Very true ravencajun, gotta be cautious now days, I think Shockwave Player wanted to install a Norton scan along with the player.

do the updates as I said originally those programs normally will simply over write and replace the old versions. Then do as lynn suggested and go back to secunia inspector and see if it is showing you are current. do not do anything in add remove till you have all updates done then if secunia shows you still have an old version showing you can then delete it but that should be taken care up when the update happens.

Java for some reason is the one that is bad about not over writing the old version and there fore you have to go in and remove the old ones after you get the new one.

As to Adobe reader that is a personal preference if you like it and it is working well and the updates are not critical security updates then keep the one you have.
