it is a very new update and yes it is a security update so I would do the update, you should be able to just open your adobe and hit update. You can definitely get foxit if you prefer it is a good program, it has had some security updates lately also because the same holes were found in both applications. However it has recently gone in the hall of shame for trying to get you to install un needed and un wanted toolbars and other things so be careful, if you search here I posted a thread about what to watch for, I think it had foxit in the title so search for that.

The laptop's all set up - and dd received it on Tuesday. For now we'll try open office. She does have a desktop pc with word if she needs it. And at school they use Mac's. So no matter what we use at home, it won't be quite the same as in school. abreeze - thanks for the link. It's beyond anything she or I will do now - but one or both of us might get more versed in powerpoint over time. That's a helpful comparison. I created recovery disks - but when I went to create a password reset disk, the laptop kept asking me to insert a disk. There was a disk in there. I even switched disks in case one was bad. But it was birthday day - so I figured I'd get to this later. Well - it came back and bit me in the butt. Birthday night had some trauma. After dinner, my mother fell backwards and hit her head on the sidewalk. I took her to the ER. My daughter was distraught - and the parent controls had logged her off at 9pm. Husband thought this was a reasonable exception - so he logged into the admin account for her. She immediately eliminated the time controls. No big deal, I thought - I'll reset them another time. Somehow she tricked my husband into entering the admin password again - told him she'd restarted the computer by accident. Well - that sneak had gotten him to enter the password in a field that allowed her to change it. She changed the passwords and locked us out of the laptop. So this is where that password reset disk would have been helpful - to override what she did and reset a new admin password. So this is partly a note to people about the important of creating a password reset disk (or set up on flash drive). I'd never even heard of this before. We're at the beach with my daughter and friend - it's instead of a birthday party. So we're not having the confrontation with this weekend. Monday - we tell her she has to hand back the reins for the admin account (or no laptop). The joys of parenting preteens. It took her less than 24 hours to violate most of the terms of the contract she signed. Sure wish I'd had that reset password disk. When I get admin control back, I'll be sure to create one somehow. Hi, Mikie. I didn't realize I could go to the Java control panel. There was a selection for temporary internet files - with a warning that only advanced users should delete files or modify settings. But I clicked "view" anyway to take a look. It brought up a box with a heading that said Java Cache Viewer. But all five selections from the drop down menu - starting with applications - brought up an empty box. And the top of the box said installed size 0.0kb and Cached size 0.0KB. So there didn't seem to be anything to clear or delete. The other option from the java control panel under temporary internet files, is settings. When I click settings, it brings up a box that says temporary file settings - and an option to hit delete. But I got scared to hit delete after the warning. Is that the spot in the control panel that you suggest I do delete? Should I select "delete files?" ------------------------ So next I looked for a shortcut - and don't have one on the desktop. But I had one in the start menu. I clicked on it, hit properties and it brought up several Secunia files. When I moused over them they were all dated October 2011. So clearly my last install yesterday - which indicated that it was removing earlier versions - did not remove this version. Even the one in the system tray - when I click 'about" it also dates this as October, 2011. When I right click and select open (for the Secunia PSI file), it opens the box for a moment - but then the box disappears). Anybody know if 2.0.0.4003 is the latest version? When I look at the Secunia file I downloaded yesterday, it says version 2.0.0.4003 - and is dated may 8, 2012. I'm thinking I should go back to the properties and select uninstall. Should I uninstall? I thought I had uninstalled when I clicked yesterday's download - and it prompted me to first select that it uninstall previous versions. (By the way, I had previously in the fall, tried removing the Secunia program with add/remove programs - and redownloaded, but that didn't work.) So is it possible that I still have a bad version from Oct. 2011 - that's preventing successful downloads? and isn't uninstalling? Help. I count on Secunia to keep my programs up to date - and now I can't run the online or psi version. Thanks. Lynn.

Thanks Terry and Ravencajun. I have some follow-up questions. - for the flash update page, where do I find that page? is it the link I get with secunia scan results? If I go to that link (the secunia results are on my firefox browser now), can I also get the IE and AOL versions there (and will they install in the proper place) - OR - do I have to go through each browser to the update page and download the flash update from within each browser? - For the insecure older versions of files located in the dell setup files c:\i386 - can I delete them? they may not be doing any harm, but if I don't need them, I'd rather get rid of them. that way when I do this scan in the future, I won't get results that show insecure files - or maybe if I do this way in the future and I forget what that location means, it will be nice to not have to deal with it. - do I need all 4 versions of Java version 6, update 7 - for the flashplayer in AOL software, it is only suggesting updating to version 6.0.88.0 or 9.0.47.0 (and this 9.0.47.0 was found to be insecure in it's other locations). Could it be that AOL needs an earlier version of flash? perhaps the newer version 9.0.124.0 isn't compatible with AOL? Thanks. Lynn.
