I like the idea of a smaller tile on the floor so that the grout line provides added traction. The 2x2 trim, may be something you'd like on the walls but it might not lend itself to spacious open spaces. To me it will break up the space and make it look smaller, but I may be wrong. Have you gone to houzz yet as Babka suggested? There are millions and millions of bathroom pictures. Well maybe only 330,927, I just looked :) But there are so many, you will be able to narrow your search and find something that fits with what you have in mind and compare. I would consider using hex but not in a white color and not with the flower pattern. After the 1920s, the more popular colors are pale greys and pastels. (Technically 4x4 would have been more common than 3x6 by the 1930s too, but the brick shape is in such common usage now, I don't think this matters). If you are not using rectified (flat edge) tile, look at Daltile, they also have a 2" hex which was more common later. Look at American Restoration Tile for period colors and other patterns. The Pentagon and Block Random patterns (under "Spiral") would be very appropriate, and there are alternate hex patterns as well. Here is a link that might be useful: American Restoration Tile

I've used large tile (12x12 and 16x16) in smaller bathrooms with similar color grout to help the space look / feel larger. I think if I'd used contrasting grout with the large tile, the bathroom would have looked smaller because then the room is chopped up visually with grout lines. Yet I also think very small patterns (basketweave, small hex, penny round, pinwheel, etc) work really well in small bathrooms. The small scale pattern looks more like a texture and your eye can't really count the grout lines like you could on a large format contrasting grout tile job.

We are also doing two bathroom remodels. Our tile installer is telling us that large tiles are the rage right now, however our master bath will be a wet room. I am very hesitant to put large tiles on the floor thinking that they could be very slippery. On the other hand, I really don't want to deal with discoloring of grout as time goes on. Now my mother installed lots of tile in the 80s and and the grout became very discolored. I am suspecting grout has come a LONG was since then. I have read about epoxy and urethane grout. Does anyone have suggestions for a bathroom wet room? Thanks so much for your opinions in advance!
