Canon printer problem

Canon Pixma 130, used only occasionally. I am getting a 5100 error message "jammed cartdridge". I have turned on/off the printer. I have reseated the color and Black cartdridges. None of this worked. Any suggestion beside the obvious, a new printer? TIA

When the cartridge carrier returns to it's base position does it do that properly? I ask because I had a Lexmark with similar issues and the fix was to jamb the cartridge carrier hard to the right side so it actually clicked into the resting position. Obviously Canon is not Lexmark but these are the kinds of things you might consider trying. I suspect this has nothing to do with the individual ink cartridges being seated in the carrier. Although it might be prudent to ask if you have recently replaced inks and if you used off brand stuff.

The other issue of course is your used only occasionally, printers need to be used or the print heads can and do dry up. This is not the nozzles on the cartridges but the jets themselves. I like to print something, even a small item, weekly or close to that.

Thank you very much, I jambed the carrier to the far right X's 2 and it works. By the way I have only used Canon ink jets and I have never refilled, just buy new. It does appear that my black is low. Colors good.

Thank you for your suggestion. I got into the site and was reading, then decided that I would try once again. To my amazement it worked and I was able to put two new ink cartlidges into my printer. So thank you........Grace

LOL I have the same printer and recently updated the driver. Along with the update...I became the disgruntled owner of that "L" shaped icon...and LOL...it drove me bonkers. Right click on the icon when it appears and click on "quit". That will put it back into a subcategory under the Canon Utilities in the "All Programs" list....in Win 7.1. You never need to bring it back to life if you wish to access it from that Utilities site. You can add the "My Printer" from the same location to the desktop toolbar if you want something right up front. It's far less annoying...being one small icon. HTH Glad I'm not the only one who finds that icon invasive. ;-) Anne

Toni, what kind of camera did you get? Must have been pretty sophisticated for Canon to throw in a $500 printer! Re Canon ink, someone said the following in a review: Ink Usuage - Good on ink, Not really an ink guzzler. I printed dozens and dozens of 4x6's and even a bunch of 8x11's and 13x19s and the ink kept going and going, until I finaly started running low (after many prints had been printed). Also I now use The Continuous Ink System , so ink is now dirt cheap. Costs something link [...] per cartridge (estimated - all I know is I pay [...] for and 8 pack of about 880 ml's of ink which is over 80 cartridges (no joke, visit fleabay and youll see tons of them)...Save money and Dont buy Canon Ink Carts and you will save at least 50% right off the bat). I've never heard of Continuous Ink System, but will look it up.

I have two suggested approaches, with no guarantee either would work. In order of preference: 1) plug the printer into the netbook. See if Windows on its own with the plug and play capability handles a driver download and install 2) Failing that, change the settings so that the printer is treated as a "network printer" and then try to add it as the default printer for the netbook. Absent that, you can share folders between the two PCs and when there's something on the netbook you want to print, save it to a folder on the desktop or on the laptop that the desktop is permitted access to and print from the desktop. There may be other approaches too.
