GE Profile Dishwasher - won't dry my dishes
Comments (48)In 40+ years of appliance work I've watched dishwashers get a bad rap for valid reasons and for things they had no control over. For the most part they are good inprovements. I have maintained the saying "you can build a dishwasher out of an erector set and plywood and still get clean / dry dishes as long as you can supply and maintain the correct water temp." Maintain is the keyThat magic number has always been 140 degrees. Mandated Energy regulations present a chalenge due to factors manufacturers can not control such as how long it takes for cold water to clear the line because water just sitting it the pipe, will cool down. No dishwasher was ever designed to heat water from cold to 140+. Average home you will loose 20 degrees from water heater to kitchen, or around 1 degree per foot of temp loss. Ever wonder how dishwashers suddenly became "Tupperware Safe." Since the early 80's dishwashers have heavily depended on water temp to dry dishes. Dishwashes that heat water but don't have a heated dry, do a great job of heating the water. There are several other factors that can cause poor drying like having much more plastic than dish dishes. The one constant will always be the water tem....See MoreBosch dishwasher repairs-soap dispenser
Comments (4)It is delicate--we have three Bosch DW ranging in age from about 10 to 2 years old. All share the same dispenser design. With the oldest one, the sliding door will periodically pop off the track. So far it's been easy just to snap it back on and it continues to work fine. I think the key is to close the door gently, and applying pressure downward on the back of the sliding door once it's been closed to latch it. The temptation is just to keep pushing it closed harder and harder until it clicks, but it's definitely a downward push that will latch it easily--so it's "slide closed, then push back of door (by the little blue release lever) downwards to lock". Despite the concern we have perhaps 18 cumulative years of use without needing to repair the dispenser....See MoreHelp. My soap dispenser takes forever to dispense.
Comments (5)I also had this problem with 2 Blanco dispensers. I called them and they sent replacement pump mechanisms. This did not work any better, so I called again. They told me I need to dilute the "ultra" detergent I was using to about 50-50, and this finally did the trick. The better dishwashing detergents are now being made so thick that they can't go through the opening (which on more expensive dispensers tends to be small). I tried to fix it by adding hot water through the top opening of the bottle then stirring with the plastic bottom "straw" part. This still did not work well, so I had to dismantle the whole thing, dump out the old detergent, then refill it with the diluted mix. I was rather annoyed that I had problems with such expensive dispensers so I looked at some others that I knew worked well. The main difference seemed to be that the hole opening of the less expensive dispensers was a much larger diameter....See MoreWhat Soap in a Soap Dispenser?
Comments (13)Our kitchen isn't done yet, but we're putting hand soap in the dispensers at both the prep & main sink. I considered putting the dish soap in the dispenser, but I like to be able to squirt my dish soap at different places as needed. If it's in the dispenser the only place to put it is either in the sink where it "falls" or on the edge of pans/dishes as far in as the spout sticks out (I hope this made sense!) As to using dish soap for both...I find that even Palmolive is too harsh for regular hand washing...maybe if you only did it once or twice a day, but I wash my hands many more times a day. IMO, the "hand soap" label on the Palmolive (yes, we use that brand) refers to "hand dish washing" as opposed to "machine dish washing"...despite "Madge"! ("you're soaking in it!")...See Morejeffj
