Help. My soap dispenser takes forever to dispense.

I have to pump it like 10 times to get the soap out when I first use it. THen if I use it again within a couple minutes, it's OK and comes out on the first try. But if I wait too long, I'm back to square 1 and pumping 10 times. I've actually had 2 pumps and had the same problem with each.

Is it the soap I'm using? I've put in liquid dishwashing deterjent (like Dawn, Pallmolive, ect.). I want to use the soap from it to wash my dishes but it's so frustrating to wait so long to get the soap. Any advice you have would be great! Thanks!

Some people have cut the soap with water. I just have a $14 HD model and use Sunlight liquid DW detergent, and it works like a charm!

Sounds like air is getting into the lines somewhere and breaking the suction. Can you get under there and check all the parts? Easier to change the soap first, then if that doesn't work, go poking around down under.

I too had this problem with an expensive Kenmore Elite but I decided not to let it bother me. I fill one powder dispenser and leave it open and make sure I have the Jet Dry department always filled. I never observed a lack of top notch cleaning after that, but I did give it to Habitat for Humanity when I got the top of the line Thermador (made by Bosch). The Thermadors and Bosch's are far better than the Miele's at their price points and they are at least as quiet as the best Miele's, which cost $1K more. Greg

sloneby - It hasn't been my experience that the dispensers have broken. My current dispenser is a multiply-resused/recycled Bath and Body one and I've been using the same one where I've refilled it for over two years now. The one in the bath has been at use longer than that and is used much more than the one in the kitchen. It's been my experience that the soap doesn't separate out at all - it stays and even dilution without a problem. It may be worth noting that I don't use an anti-bac soap with the little beads nor do I use a creamy based liquid to make my dilution. The one I've been using the most often has been Dr. Bronner's Magic Soap (Pure Castile Soap with organic oils). It's avaiable scented or unscented (then you can add your own essential oils if you prefer). I've also used other soaps as well when I was out of Dr. Bronner's and needed to mix up a batch. Every once in a while, I need to rinse off the nozzle if it starts to clog up a bit, but I would say that happens maybe once in between a refill, if even that much. In the meantime, I bought one of these. Unfortunately, it's not satin nickle, but it works okay. I get one that matches the color of the room the best and then just use the sleeve over it. Not perfect, but better. I've been thinking of checking into getting some spray paint to see if I can paint over it in a satin finish. Here is a link that might be useful: Bath & Body cover

Just for looks, I like the Moen and the Elkay. Have you seen them in person? I take it by curved top you mean the Moen is slightly dome shaped. That wouldn't bother me (it's so slight), and it would mean that water would run off the top rather than puddle. It looks a little chunkier and possibly more in scale with your faucet, but that may be the scale of the photos. On the otherhand, the Elkay looks like it would be a trimmer fit next to the chunky handle on your faucet. I'd measure the height and clearance as well as the spout length on those two. The Hansgrohe looks like the spout might be too short and doesn't seem to fit your style as well (short, angled end spout). The Waterstone adds different details that I think detract -- I'd rather be a little simpler than a little too much on the dispenser. I really like what you've done with your kitchen. I wanted to want a backsplash more like yours, but it didn't seem to fit our kitchen. I might do something like that in my laundry room. Maybe a little overkill, but I have have a little more freedom there than in a very open kitchen. Have fun.

I understand the concerns about using dish soap if it tends to dry your hands. That hasn't been a probelm for me, but I do have a child with OCD who tends to wash more than necessary, so for a while I switched from the antibacterial dish soap to a dish soap that was not antibacterial. It was gentler on the hands, and kept my child's hands from cracking (and sometimes bleeding) as they had with the antibacterial soap. Since then, I've diverted my child from constant hand washing to using hand sanitizer in between a normal amount of hand washing, which has solved the problem. Now I can use whatever kind of dish soap I want. But if it doesn't bother your hands, dish soap is a perfectly good hand soap. (My grandmother even used dish soap for shampoo, which I do occasionally for a super cleansing of all hair products from my hair, with no discernible harm.)

I also had this problem with 2 Blanco dispensers. I called them and they sent replacement pump mechanisms. This did not work any better, so I called again. They told me I need to dilute the "ultra" detergent I was using to about 50-50, and this finally did the trick. The better dishwashing detergents are now being made so thick that they can't go through the opening (which on more expensive dispensers tends to be small).

I tried to fix it by adding hot water through the top opening of the bottle then stirring with the plastic bottom "straw" part. This still did not work well, so I had to dismantle the whole thing, dump out the old detergent, then refill it with the diluted mix.

I was rather annoyed that I had problems with such expensive dispensers so I looked at some others that I knew worked well. The main difference seemed to be that the hole opening of the less expensive dispensers was a much larger diameter.

Does the dilluted soap/water mixture stay mixed? I'm asking because I have a daughter with OCD who is washing her hands constantly. For the sake of her poor chapped hands, I've tried mixing the soap with water and it always seems to separate. I'd love to be able to dillute the amount of soap she's putting on her hands. Maybe I just need to mix it more vigorously? But then I get suds.

Hi, After breaking two pumps several years ago, we were advised to add water to the pump. So after I squirt Dawn or others into the receptacle, I add plain tap water in a tumbler, by dribbling it into the receptacle. I presume it mixes. I have never had any problems since. Whenever it takes more than a few pushes, I add more soap and water assuming that it is out of detergent. I have never had to dismantle or otherwise monkey around. I fill it infrequently, use it many times a day, and would never want an MT taking up precious real estate under my sink. Clutter in my very cluttered house makes me even nuttier and not having a detergent bottle on the counter gives a little, temporary peace. But then there's always more clutter!
