FWIW; I had a flash problem with a particular site. It was FLASH has a known problem with one of the stream standards/streaming methods, and not all firewalls will pass it even after explicitly configured for it. Even when I set the ports to allow, it takes 30 seconds or so to start streams. Its a know problem and Adobe has a page on it that says tuff luck until they figure it out. I have to lower my router firewall settings a notch just to able to start flash streams from certain sites that use one version of their FLASH streaming server. Not saying its your problem ,, but was mine on at least one site I frequent so I have my router firewall sitting on minimum because of Adobe/Flash.

I use this Firefox add-on: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/easy-youtube-video-downl-10137/?src=search That's just the one I stumbled on and suits my limited needs, so I stick with it, there may be better for all I know. The reason I wasn't quick to mention it is that, if I remember correctly, it tried to tempt/trick me into upgrading to an "ad-supported" version when I first installed it, and maybe even every time it updates. I don't really remember, but I got the feeling it was baiting me into installing something I didn't want, and I didn't really like that. The regular version works great for what I use it for though. I can download the video as an "flv" or "mp4" in any bitrate it's available as. As for the higher bitrate audio that they want me to upgrade to receive, I don't need that anyway. I can always strip the audio out of the video if I need it. :)

Most iPods (and most better MP3 players) will have a line-out connection similar to the one your CD player had. Should be a matter of just plugging in the iPod. Another option, if you already have a wireless network in your house, is an Apple Airport Express, which will receive the iTunes signal from your PC and provide a line-out jack which you could then plug into the speaker selector. However, that will still require you to select tunes from the PC. Whether that's more convenient or better than selecting them on the iPod is up to you and your installation.
