Ideas For Annuals On Sloped Hill (PIC)
Comments (26)Donna: I put some Verbena (three colors) in there though I'm not sure what they'll look like in a few months. I get quite a bit of conflicting information on how much they spread. I've been throwing this and that in since the last photo on May 1. One includes two annual (or so they say) Samantha Lantana that offers yellow flowers and a variegated leaf. I also planted four Dusty Miller. Both the Lantana and Dusty are planted in the center area. Should be interesting especially the trailing petunias and how to keep them full looking. In other words, with the steep incline in some spots I suppose I'll have to prop them up with bamboo sticks (cut to 6-8 inches and stick them in the soil) so they'll spread out instead of trail downhill. It could be more of a "training experience" for them. Rudbeckias? In another location further up the drive from seed. I'm trying not to buy as many full size plants as possible. Here's a pic of the Samantha....See MoreNewbie designing greenhouse
Comments (7)Sorry to confuse ya sfallen, I don't think i mentioned the back wall will be tied to the foundation via piers, so the load bearing framing will stay in place, so I think it will stay rigid if I move that back wall out another 8 feet. I sure would love to build something like a 20 x 30, but this is a joy jar project, so it has to be limited to what is in there this year. Kinda tight, hub laid off and in college, oldest getting married and in college, middle one in college, youngest graduating high school and going on to college. They sure do put a knock on that jar lol. Fuzzy, the only extra heat I plan this year is the small woodstove, firewood is plentiful on this hill of mine. Which I am counting on to help with cooling via breezes swooping up the field. Another plumb job is out lol, the dh just will not go for more plumbing to go wrong, but I hope to sweettalk him into the power this fall. Thanks again for all the advice. minerva...See MoreJaguar photo??
Comments (22)When I first saw those tracks last winter I did send the photos to every big cat website I could think of, with no results. Apparently, there aren't any track forums, and jaguars are now officially "extinct" in North America. This forum is full of nature experts, so I posted the track photos here next, but in the meantime I did my own research and got a game cam, but its been too wary to get in front of them. For old timers, remember how the webmaster, Spike, would censor any post that was "off subject?" Didn't mean to upset those who haven't been following my jaguar saga. For the purists, there were wild turkey photos on the cam also. Since I also post photos to my blog and on Twitter, where the subjects aren't strictly segmented, I sometimes assume all people who are interested in birds are also interested in other creatures in the same environment. But if the animal finally gets on camera, that would be the only wild jaguar in North America (at least, officially). I did question the neighbor and he described the black kitten as having a "large, square" head, and short legs, and the tracks for jaguars are larger and shaped differently from both cougar and leopard tracks. The sounds we heard were nothing like a cougar, which I have heard. They were like the sounds on the National Geographic clip I already posted, and the tracks, seen clearly in the mud, next to a ruler, are in the link I already posted as well. The jaguar is the largest North American cat, with 4 1/4" wide front tracks and a metapad that fills most of the track. The game cam photo with the whiskers doesn't show what animal it is, just that something with long whiskers was messing with the camera the same night we heard the strange calls right outside our tent. I found tracks everywhere afterward, but none of them were clear, or in mud....See MoreStone Creek House Plans
