Can someone tell me if I can trust these virus instruction?

Somehow Antivir Solution Pro has taken over my computer. Son #2 uses UTorrent and son #1 says this is probably how I got it although he has used it for a long time. Son #1 restored computer to a previous date and that seemed to get rid of it. I had been using AVG, but let the free trial expire. I decided to activate it after that. I paid the money and downloaded the new version of AVG and as soon as I did, Antivir Solution Pro took over again. How did that happen? Am I out the money I paid for AVG? Anyway, I found these instructions for removing Antivir, but didn't know if I could trust this website.

I would highly suggest you go to the forum I will list and start a thread there in the area I link to asking for assistance, tell them exactly what you know about what it is you have, the team there will lead you through cleaning your infection step by step using some specialized programs. This type of infection can be difficult to remove with out the assistance of the malware forum pros to guide you.

I bought a tropicanna last year from Lowes and through even this summer it has grown without any visable problems. I bought a black one a couple weeks ago from a local nursery and it turned out that after spending a couple weeks noticing its growth to be odd, that it was diseased. I have thrown it in the trash, luckily it grew far from my canna and my neighbors. Locally I have noticed most cannas in nurseries are diseased now that I know the traits. I have to wait to see if my other canna was contaminated by pruning off old flowers, though I don't recall having to cut any off. I didnt realize this had all gotten so serious. How is the wholesale trade keeping thier stock alive to even sell them? I would almost think it wouldnt be long before they have nothing left. I had hosta that had virus before among roses and even black eyed susan. Gardening seems too difficult these days with a global plant market distributing out of one place. There are no guards in place to protect our plant supplies and communities. I have a feeling that cold regions probably have the least diseased material since here many people don't plant them yard to yard for which I am thankful. My neighbors have huge numbers of a heritage canna that has been in their family for years so I am trying to keep my yard clean for them too. Isolation by being zone 5 is my only comfort at the moment.

It has produced some new growth at the top and at the short stub at the right. It still doesn't look right to me. The new growth on the short stub also has a dark green/brown color. I've put the cutting in the shadow. What's wrong overhere? See photo. @Peter, dry rot might be possible. I don't know really. Should I try some hydrogenperoxide? Edit: I don't trust it at all. I've removed it from my collection and swabbed it with h2o2. Does someone have any pointers about how to progress from here? Can it be saved?

You're very welcome Ghazal :) Its great that you've noticed it does better with more light, always trust your instinct as the generic advice online is hard to apply to so many different scenarios. Calatheas don't do well in direct sunlight as it can scorch the leaves, but in a north-west facing window it will largely receive indirect light and a small amount of weak sunlight when the sun is setting, so putting it next to the window should be great for it. As a tip for working out what is "bright, indirect light" try and find a place where your hand casts a fairly strong shadow, or where you can easily read a book without needing a light on. Direct sunlight is when the rays hit the plant. In terms of increasing humidity, theres a few things. You can add a little water to the pebble tray but do not let it reach the bottom of the pot as you don't want the roots to be sitting in water. As the water evaporates, it creates humidity. Buying a humidifer is another option if you want to, although probably not necessary until winter. Or placing it in or near the bathroom or kitchen where it will get some steam if that's an option. Grouping plants together if you have others always helps to increase humidity. Hope that helps! Also, in case you aren't aware - Calatheas are fussy about the minerals in tap water if you have hard water in your area. It's best to use distilled or rain water where possible, although I can't see any evidence of your plant not being happy with the water. Hope you notice an improvement soon and do post an update if you remember, I'd love to see how you get on!

The blue wire is from the old cieling fan . And someone previously posted the blue was ground And there is the reason you should be hiring an electrician. Blue wires are typically "hot" for the lights in the ceiling fan. When you hooked it up to the bare ground wire from the fixture, you create a short and tripped the breaker. However, you never really know unless you have a pro look at how things are wired. Be careful taking advice from the internet on issues that could cause you home to catch for or create a danger for you and your family.

Programs like the one you are trying to remove are fake antivirus that mess up your computer after installation. This typically happens from visiting a sketchy site: a fake message pops-up saying that your computer is infected and it can be cleaned up if you just install Product X. If you do that, you're giving permission for malware to be installed on your computer.

I suspect that this may have happened when your son was using UTorrent. You should have a talk with him and anyone else that uses your computer to make sure there's no more clicking on stuff like this in the future, or visiting of dubious sites.

AVG has a totally free version you do not have to buy it, what you had apparently was the trial version of the pay version.
If you want a good free Antivirus program there are a few good choices,
AVAST, MSE microsoft security essentials, AVG, AVIRA

When you go to the malware removal forum you will be helped with choosing and installing a good antivirus also just be sure to post all of that info. In fact it is a good idea to put a link to this post over there so we have it all together.

You never removed the virus files. System Restore doesn't fix virus issues. You may well have other infections going undetected as well. Really need to follow RC advice.

All System Restore does is go back to some earlier settings for your computer. It does not magically restore your computer to the exact state it was in at the restore time. Software you have added since (good and bad), files, photos, music, etc. are all unaffected.
