I like GE Monogram and Fisher-Paykel Aerotech. They fall somewhere in the middle in regard to price, features, etc. - not as expensive or feature-laden as the Miele but a definite step above KA.

I hated hated hated the old oven with open heating elements. Hence, when looking for my new one I only looked at those with covered elements.

Another thought to consider when choosing a 27" oven is the actual usable space inside. We were briefly considering 27" instead of 30" and had a very hard time finding one that would have fit our big turkey pan. We took that one with us to every showroom we went. As much as I like the Miele and eventually got the 30" one, it didn't have the largest interiour space among the 27" ones. I think at the time (about 2 years ago) only the 27" Kitchenaid oven had covered elements AND fit our large pan.

The Miele is definitely by far a better oven than the Kitchenaid. I'm glad that our kitchen design allowed for a 30" oven. Our budget didn't allow for 2 Miele though. We only got one. With true convection and the possibility of putting in multiple sheets of cookies or several pans at the same time I didn't see our need for a second oven as that high. If your space constraints dictate 27" I would most certainly think which large pan you need to fit and take it to the showroom.

Thanks for the advice about capacity, beatrix. Unfortunately, our space is limited to 27 inch width, which is one of the reasons we're going with 2. (Ht is no problem). And zoenipp, I checked out the FP Aerotech---beautiful but it's 30 inches. That's the same reason we can't consider several other brands. Any other thoughts?

Gaggenau. Wonderful but expensive. Love the side opening door. We have the 27" combi steam oven over the 27" convection oven. Gagg also has a 27" double convection oven unit. However, I've heard that the 27" ovens will be discontinued for 30" units.

Is thermador out of the picture. They make a very large oven, Pretty good reliability with the newer units and aren't terribly expensive. Look at a ME272ES. Also the new bosch units coming out in a month or two are based on the same unit but should be a little less money

gizmonike, Thanks for the recommendation on Gaggenau. And the fact that they're doing away with the 27 inch may mean there's a bargain out there for me. joboxes, I'll definitely check out that Thermador model as well.

We recently (2 weeks ago) purchased the Gaggenau 27 inch double convection wall ovens. They did not seem to think they were being discontinued? Also through this fall there is a $500.00 dollar rebate with purchase.

If you're going to a showroom to look at ovens (and I definitely suggest you do!), I agree with Beatrix that you should bring your largest roasting pan and/or tape measure. Most (if not all) of the ovens we saw had rack "frames" that protruded into the body of the oven and took up a lot of room on the left and right. In addition, the space beneath the bottom rack was also unusable.

Gaggenau ovens let you put the roasting tray right on the bottom of the oven if you need more height. Also, there is no rack rail frame; the trays & racks slide into grooves that are integral to the walls. This allows more side room & is much easier to clean. The inside is a beautiful cobalt blue enamel.

Maybe it's just the 27" combi-steam & single convection that are being discontinued for the new 30" versions.

I , too am looking for a 27" wall oven. I loved the GE Monogram, but it only comes in 30" or more. Miele and Gaggenau are just too expensive. The local applicance store salesman says I'd be making a mistake to choose KitchenAid over the GE Profile (which I understand is noisy). I think he likes GE because of the low repair rate on GE ovens reported in Consumer Reports. Several friends tell me they love their Thermadors, but Consumer Reports shows a 26 percent repair rate on Thermador wall ovens - among the highest repair rate! I'd appreciate any advice!

Based on our unit, the older Dacors are great..highly recommended. We are building right now and the Miele's are on the top of the list and if the budget gets cut, we will drop to Fisher Paykel, then to GE Profile as last resort.
