Spell check question....

I just changed over to a new computer, and all functions on my old computer was transfered over to the new one, exept the spell check function, where you can right-click on any text you are writing, to get a drop-down tab that brings up the spell check. I am not a good speller and really miss this. Help.

Well perhaps you had a program with the spell check installed or you had a third party spell checker. Google 'free spell check' without quote marks and a lot of free programs will be available for you to select from

We had a problem with the computer, and my son had to run several checks to clear it of problems picked up. Everything seems to be working now except spell check. I went to Word (not OE)and typed a sentence with errors. A window came up that said that MSSpell check could not be found. After that I typed another document with spelling errors, and it came up that the spell check was complete, but it did not pick up the errors. I guess my spell check got deleted somehow, so maybe I need to reinstall Word?

firefox has one built in, for IE I have used IESpell this one here you can use pretty much on all. After the Deadline ieSpell

Testing with Firefox 39.0 on the Windows forum... Working for me. "Can it be that individual forums on houzz have different posting rules? don't allow a spell check to be active?" Maybe? http://stackoverflow.com/questions/254712/disable-spell-checking-on-html-textfields I sure don't know why they'd want to though. :)

are you talking about when you are using your browser like to respond here? or in email or in some other program? most programs contain their own spell check. you can add on programs also but it could be that the one in your existing program is turned off, you can turn it off and on.
Let us know in what program and if it is the browser then what browser and what versions of windows you are talking about.

Thank you everyone for trying to answer my question. My browser is Internet Explorer and I am running Windows 7. My old computer was Windows XP. Yes I mean when I'm responding here, for example, or writing anywhere for that matter. Email is not a problem, as that has its own spell check. Same with my word prosessor.

ok then what you need to do is check your version of IE I assume since you are using windows 7 you have IE8. IF so here are some options for you. I have used iespell for years.
ieSpell - A Spell Checker for Internet Explorer

or you could add IE7Pro addon to your IE even if it is IE8 which will offer you some very nice tools including a spell checker.

from what I have found it definitely works on IE8 and several have said it works on windows 7 too.
