Question about Outlook Express Spell Check

Why would the Spell Check button be greyed out when I try to send e-mails? How can I get that feature back?

Did you remove MS Office from the computer? Spell check for OE is through MS Word.

There are a couple of free spell checkers, you would need to
Google for them to select the one you think would suit your needs.

We had a problem with the computer, and my son had to run several checks to clear it of problems picked up. Everything seems to be working now except spell check.

I went to Word (not OE)and typed a sentence with errors. A window came up that said that MSSpell check could not be found. After that I typed another document with spelling errors, and it came up that the spell check was complete, but it did not pick up the errors.

I guess my spell check got deleted somehow, so maybe I need to reinstall Word?

you will need to know which version of AVG you have if it is the new version 8 AVG and if it is the free or paid version. If this is a new built pc you should probably let the builder troubleshoot it. Here is a link to the forums at AVG where you could ask them this question, however you will need to provide the version info and give them your pc info also. There is a dedicated email scanner which in version 8 you can turn off to see if that would change how your mail is acting. That way you might be able to determine if it is working ok with out the AVG email scanner then you know what might possibly be conflicting. Here is a link that might be useful: AVG forum

You need to add something to get OE6 to spell check. Word would do it you had it but there are free ones around. Here's a link to one: Spell check at major geeks.

There is a very effective program that you can download for free called "Spam-Aid", it will block ALL messages that are from anyone that is not listed in your address book.It is installed on your computer as a separate program and you can use it, or bypass it to check your email the usual way without anything being blocked. Just keep in mind when using Spam-Aid to check you mail, EVERYTHING is blocked and deleted at the server except for messages from those that are listed in your address book. It is very effective at what it does, I use it and am well pleased with it. I might add that the program does have a way for those whom you know that are not listed in your address book to get a messsage delivered to you by way of a "password" which they can obtain from a clue you give them in setting up the program. If you have the CD with word install on it,
you might go to control panel add/remove or Programs/Features and start the uninstall and see if it offers to repair it. If not unistall/reinstall probably will fix it.

I uninstalled trialware that came with a computer here , Office home and student 2007 , and still have email spell check left over and working from it.

Was that a Vista system? I have been holding off removing the same from my new system because of concern of losing spellcheck.

Yep, about a month old Toshiba Vista Laptop.
You have to register the MS-word or the Office Home and Student before uninstalling ...

I unistalled it without registering and things screwed up - needed reinstalling the Restore CD completely. Vista and all the junk.

But that gave a chance to put it on a reduced size partition so I could make a spare 20gb for fedora and another little 3gb dedicated partition for the pagefile(quicker/neater!).

How about if you still have the current version of MS Works installed?

I haven't been in a big hurry to remove all the unused applications as space is not a need.

Removing the Office home/student doesnt seem to have any affect on Works.
I don't really use the Works programs but have been fiddling with a little of all of them. Everything seems to work fine.
