Gina, for moths we always use some cedar wood blocks. Works good but too many in the closet and your clothes can smell like a gerbil cage.

I have found some herbal moth repellent sachets. I don't know if they work, though. You might try the moth traps, too. I use them in my pantry. They DO work.

Everyone swears by bay leaves in the pantry, maybe if you hung nets bags full of bay leaves in your closets it would repel critters.

Spiders, I don't know a natural solution. When I moved into this house 21 years ago it was infested with fat little brown house spiders of some sort. In the summer they would come out at night and crawl up the walls and the ceiling. I found one swimming in my bedside water glass early one morning. I finally resorted to pest control but only on the outside of the house, never inside. After a while I had no more spiders.

Eeww, that's icky! Spiders love us too, but I'd draw the line at finding them in my clothes. We have the exterminator spray outside monthly, but we try and use more natural repellents inside. I discovered Pelinda Lavender Farms when we visited San Juan Island last summer. Their lavender sachets are in organza bags that are tucked inside my sweater closet and they smell wonderful. You just crush the bag to renew the scent. So far, so good. I also use mothballs, I know they can be harmful, but over time we've lost hundreds of dollars to moth damage. I don't spread them around but try and keep them with the wools.
Additionally, our exterminator sweeps the external cobwebs clean on each visit.

Gerbil cage, LOL. I did have hanging cedar blocks in my old house. I'll have to get some more, and check on the moth traps and lavender. I hadn't thought of exterminators. After moths ate holes in the few NEW wool sweaters I bought last season, I swore off any more woolens of any kind. It's California anyway! Sheesh I feel like I live in the country what with the insects, possums, raccoons, foxes, hawks, etc. My dog is afraid to go out in the dark!

I've always had spiders no matter where I lived. My parents had brown recluses. Make sure that is not what you have because they are very dangerous. They have what appears to be a fiddle printed on their backs and they are usually small spiders.

I've always used an exterminator to control bugs and spiders. Where I live now they only spray around on the outside perimeter of the house and it has been very effective.

I spray with some likely scary poision stuff like Ortho Home defense....it has a residual action and and anything that crawls over it for a few weeks dies dead!! How's that for brutal?

I would take everything out....spray the closet....shake all clothes out....replace the clothes and hang bags of bay leaves and cedar shavings between every hanger....who cares if you smell like beef stew was spilled in the gerbil cage...it's better than bugs!!

I live in bug country! It's funny but we don't have alot of problems with moths. SPIDERS rule here in south Louisiana!

We have to have pest control on the outside of the house and the inside. If you don't then you are overrun with roaches and every other bug known to mankind.

I keep humidity packs in all closets and hang the cedar thingys in all closets. I hate the way mothballs smells. ICK! I don't use them and would rather pay for new sweaters. LOL! I DO NOT like shopping for clothes but like to keep what classic clothes I have.

Get an exterminator. It's worth the money.

I have had lots of spiders in the house this summer but so far have not found any in my clothes. Thank goodness as I can deal with them on floors, walls and counters but not on me!

I love, love the scent of Lavender in soaps and lotions and have tried those supposedly lavender scented dryer sheets to my laundry. They do not smell anything like the lavender I know.

We have spiders here, Ashley was bitten TWICE by brown recluse spiders. I haven't found one darned thing that repels or gets rid of them, other than moving the wood pile away from the house and I'm only assuming that you do not have a big pile of cord wood on the patio!

My closet is cedar lined and so I've never had a problem with moths.

You can get cedar oil and apply some on surfaces.

You can also get camphor oil, which I think is a more effective repellant.

I have a couple of electronic zappers to keep all flying insects under control.

No flying insects = fewer spiders.
